any breed for texas is okay as long as they have a dense shaded area to cool off and june,july,august = once a day around 3pm, add a gallon size block of ice to water container you would be surprised to how often I find my Hens sunbathing during these months; is it too early for STATE FAIR...
I have my chickens in the backyard and they seem be alright with the weather and the daily 2 gallon ice water bowl and for some odd reason I still see them sunbathing when they are not in the various shaded areas

I believe I am seeing the same type of comb split at the back of the blade, I have 3 out of 5 BCM's with this comb split and they are 21 week old.....Those 3 have straw colored hackles
depends on where you live more or less; i.e. hot or cold climate, as far as crowing, they dont crow as much as people say they do, only when someone or something enters their perimeter, in winter if you dont supply a light source to keep them up until after 9pm, the rooster will wake the hens...
