    Rhode Island White

Thanks for the help. The chart shows rose comb, but they ones I have are single combs. Any significance or was I mis-informed as to the breed?

    Rhode Island White

Just introduced three new Rhode Island Whites to the flock. I do not have any experience with these. I have been led to believe they will lay brown eggs even though their lobes are white. Is this true or will they lay white eggs? They have about a month or so before they start to lay.

*Sigh* Our EE lays a brown egg...

Quote: I had the same disappointment a couple of months ago. We will keep ours also.

Chicken throwing pine chips on her back

I just saw this for the first time this morning and was going to post the same question. I figured it had something to do with covering up the eggs. Hopefully this does not mean she will go broody. It was a white leghorn that I saw do this and I am under the impression that they do not go...

    refrigerating eggs

Quote: We are importing eggs from China? WOW! I supposed they are "processed" or "packaged" under common U.S. company names or "store" brands.

    refrigerating eggs

If an egg processing plant is a USDA inspected plant and is using the official shield for the grade, they are given a date of no longer than 30 - 45 days from the pack date depending on the circumstances. This is a quote from the U.S.D.A. egg inspection manual reguarding the use of dates on...

Quote: So this process will take at least a year? Three?

Egg size from pullet to "final"?

Quote: Yes, my leghorn started laying a week ago and the eggs are only 1.5 ounces though the trend has been they are getting larger. I also have one chicken that has been laying for a month and a half with average of a medium. I was expecting at least a large from her.

Egg size from pullet to "final"?

How long does it take for a chicken to get to the largest size egg they are going to lay?

Any "Father Ted" fans out there?

Quote: Yes, true, but I do have a line they like to cross sometimes. Funny show though.

Any "Father Ted" fans out there?

Yes, I have seen them all. I do like them. I like many, many british films and sitcoms. The only thing I don't like is the irreverence in some cases.

    Who else is getting SNOW?!

Quote: Sorry to hear this. I understand what you mean. In all of this snow, the chickens are requiring much more of my time and care. 12 inches of snow and a small backyard flock/coop do not mix. We have about 12", my parents who live only about two miles from me but up another 100 feet...

    Is this a roo?

I am almost certain that is a rooster based on tail, comb, and neck feathers.

    Flock Chart in Excel

I have created a pretty elaborate one that tracks the birds, health, egg count by ea. doz., weight in oz and lbs. It also tracks your expenses verses egg output so you can see the amount of feed, etc. you put into the birds and where you are on profit/loss. pm me if you want to take a peek at...

    A great egg laying day!

Quote: Thats great! I am not sure of your leghorn, but I have been expecting mine to start at least a month ago. Her comb and wattles were large and really red and she was squatting. I am not sure what her delay was after seeing the signs for so long. Thanks for letting me share the news guys.

    A great egg laying day!

I only have a flock of eight and for the past three weeks only two have been laying. Today, however, things changed. We had three new layers this morning. The three that accomplished this feat were a leghorn, RIR, and a (beautiful green egg from a) silver Ameracauna. It's 33 degrees in North...

    who laid this egg?

Quote: That is exactly the same shade as my EE. Kinda pinkish/light brown.

    who laid this egg?

My EE lays light brown eggs. Not all EE lay green/blue eggs. You will not know what you will get until you actually see the egg.
