I just wanted to post a warning for this online hatchery. I ordered 4 baby chicks last October. One arrived dead, one was a rooster, and one was not the breed I asked for. 1 out of 4 for them. Pretty bad. I know it's risky getting them online but I couldn't find anything local until after I...
It's the same old sad story, I wanted to raise some chickens and received 2 roosters as well as chicks. Now we love these roosters so much but I can't have them where I live otherwise I would so keep them. They are sweet and beautiful, one is a barred rock and the other a production red( what...
You may be right. I was keeping them in the run during work hours but I felt bad for lack of space, but I am going to start keeping them in the run again until I get home.
Long story short- I have 6 10 week old chicks that free range my backyard while I work. When I got home yesterday, 2:30pm, I found 3 hiding in the coop and couldn't find the other 3. My yard is pretty small so I started to panic. Finally the other 3 were found hiding really well in some...
Well it's been confirmed, my gold sex link chick is now a rooster. The lady who brought him to me said she thinks now he is possibly a RIR or New Hampshire red. I'll have to find him a home but I'm wondering which breed he is, hoping it will help me in finding a good home.
Thanks,
Audra

Thanks so much, I may call and ask them what they did. Yep my lighter barred rock has a big ol comb and he is just bigger. Sad too, he's so sweet and my daughter loves him.
I got three golden sex links from a semi local farm and 2 look alike but one is not only is starting to look like a rooster, her/his feathers are different. Is this a sex link or something else. Also, because of the comb, is it a girl or boy?? I'm worried already because one of my barred...
I am so brand new to baby chicks and I keep reading about dust/dirt baths. Do I need to provide in their brooder a dust bath area? My chicks are almost 2 weeks old now. Can I just put some sand in a small bowl? Thanks!

mom to 6 baby chicks:)
I just started, I have 6 chicks a bit over a week old. I was tired of hearing and seeing how bad chickens are treated for their eggs and so I wanted to take control of that. I've also wanted a pet for years, something the kids could enjoy as well. We have a few friends who raise them and it...
I am new to baby chicks and mine are not quite a week old. My question is when can I give them fruits/veggies/mealworms... as treats. What is the right age. Right now they are just eating their baby chick starter crumbles. Thanks!
