When do eggs get full size?

How long does it take for a pullet/hen to start laying full size eggs? My wyandotte is one year old and her eggs are about a medium size. I am hoping they will still get bigger. Any ideas?

Egg safety question -probably been discussed before.

I found 3 eggs today on a chair in the yard -silly bird. What is your rule of thumb for eating unrefrigerated eggs? I already cracked them open and they look/smell fine. I didn't know about the float test until it was too late. The eggs are certainly all from the same hen. Its been about 65-70 F...

    Oh, help! Hen or roo?

I just got this chicken from a guy on Sat. It was darkish and the man said it was a hen, so I took his word for it. Now in the light, I am very worried about those pointy feathers at the base of the tail. I am assuming it is a mutt EE. It is 3 months old. What do you think?

    Grain-free chickens?

A friend of mine in VA pays good money to get eggs from chickens that are "grain-free" and only eat grass and insects. First of all, I don't see how that is possible during the winter unless they are feeding alfalfa pellets or something, and second, is that nutritionally balanced for the...

well, that was a first...hen laid egg right into my hand!

I let my hens free-range in my backyard when I am home. I just heard one making a weird sound -not the danger sound or the territorial sound, or the "let me out of this cage!" sound, so I went outside to investigate. The silly hen was in the cat litter box again, but in a weird upright position...

How many homeschooling families do we have on BYC?

I've noticed several people mention they homeschool in their siggys. Very cool! We started hs this year and I love it. Its a lot of hard work, but totally worth it. I'd love to hear stories of your family, how you started, what you like best, challenges, etc. For me, the biggest challenge is...

These are not the chickens I was looking for. More pics added

And they are not what I ordered. They are supposed to be Buff Colombian Wyandotte bantams. I ordered from Ideal, and they don't offer just a Buff Wyandotte bantam, but is that what they are anyway? Does the "Colombian" black coloring just not show up sometimes? Should I ask for my money back...

    Banty chicks arrived today! pics!

I ordered 2 white crested black polish (they are easy to identify) 2 blue quail belgian d'anvers (one was DOA, I think the other is a splash?) and 2 buff columbian wyandottes (I don't think they sent the right kind!) But they are cute. Sleeping soundly: Thanks to BYC member Kimiko for...

Ideal order arrived -Did they made a mistake with the wyandottes?

Ideal's website has this pic for the bantam Buff Columbian wyandottes: And this yellow guy is what I got: The website doesn't list plain buff bantam wyandottes, so now I'm worried I have something unknown. Any thoughts? The little chick next to it is a bantam blue quail belgian d'anvers. I...

    We are legal!!!!

Yippee!!! I just found out my application for a special permit to keep chickens was granted!! The animal control officer in charge of my case was very sweet. She had to interview 28 of my neighbors (I don't know nearly that many of my neighbors) and no one was opposed to me having chickens...

Any help for this municipal ordinance?

The following uses (of residential property) are unlawful and a public nuisance: c) Keeping or maintaining farm type animals. Can I argue that bantys are not "farm type animals?"
