    calling any one from missouri

Sorry it took 2 weeks to reply!! Better late than never, right? Have you tried OK Hatchery on a Saturday? I know Greene's in Lake St. Louis has feed but that is a haul for you! Awhile back I Googled feed stores and most didn't really have chicken feed. After a few calls I just decided that...

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

I am reading your post while my chicks are peeping away. We just came in from some "grass time" outside. They are starting to escape from the brooder box so we need a new solution. Two more weeks and they will be lodging outside!!

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

Sorry for the late reply. My incubator just has a hole for water. You put it in every 5 days. It doesn't not have an indicator telling what the humidity levels are and I can't adjust the levels. I will say that all 3 chicks are doing just fine. I am pretty sure my Painted is a roo! Big, long...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

Thanks about the names. I have read all the technical stuff about incubators and thought, "OMG, how can I do that, work full time, raise three kids and keep the house clean." So I read and read and read about which would be the easiest for me. The Brisnea and RCom either got the best reviews...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

I have a 3Com mini w/automatic egg turner. It only holds 3 eggs but that might be a blessing, I won't hatch more than I can handle at one time. I am in the middle of a neighborhood with my "illegal and illicit" chicken trade. I was going to get the Brinsea but I ordered through AmazonPrime and I...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

Meet Rice, Spicy & Terriyaki. Rice is the White Silkie who is still a little wet. Spicy is a Splash and in these photos closet to Rice. Terriyaki is showing us her butt above. She is a Partridge.I have a feeling not only is Terriyaki a Partridge but also a Roo. Just the mannerisms and...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

So, about 30 hours after a pip, my third and final egg hatched.Woo whoooo. He has chirped for a full hour. I think the chirping wore him out because he is passed out now. I know the chirping wore me out. So I am thrilled that I achieved an 100% hatch rate. I certainly can't take any credit. The...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

I didn't have a clue that only 2 hatched chicks could shed so much...idk...fur? There are little hairs all over the incubator. It's so full of fuzzy stuff I'm afraid the third chick will look like an ape instead of a chicken.

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

Well, having NO previous experience I would say keep them going another day or so. Why not go ahead and candle as well. I candled all 3 eggs that I pipped and hatched today. I KNEW one was a quitter. Well, that was the first egg to pip and hatch. The egg that had the most movement is my late...

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

Cute and fluffy babies? They are ugly! lol Only a mother could love these guys. Quitter pipped and I checked again an 3am, Just a pip. At 6am she was staring back at me. At that time the other egg was 90% hatched. We watched her push the shell off with her legs. The two hatched chickens have...

kitty litter boxes as nest boxes?

That is so funny. I saw one by the curbside the other day and checked to see if it was empty. I was thinking I might need another nesting box. Unfortunately, it was used to dispose of paint, but what a coincidence.

    Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

So, the egg I thought was a quitter has pipped! LMFAO! However, it has pipped at the wrong end. The pip has a 3 pencil eraser size of shell gone and a very tiny hole through the membrane. I have heard some chirps which I am assuming is from quitter's egg. I know I saw an air sac at the large end...

kitty litter boxes as nest boxes?

BTW, update on the Kitty Litter Box as a Nesting Box. My brown sex link loves it. Lays an egg in there every day. My bantam hen hasn't laid an egg yet but I wasn't expecting much egg wise from her. They like to sit on the top of it so I am glad it is plastic so I can wipe or hose it off every...

Comment by 'julierupert' in article 'Summer Cottage Coop'

The Kitty Litter box is making an excellent nesting box. General Tso started laying about 3 weeks ago and is giving us 6 eggs per week. Our other hen, Nugget, gets loved too much by the girls or her little tiny eggs are so well hidden in the coop that we can't find it. I should check the sink, lol.
