Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

Well, I think I finally solved the problem, I gave 2 birds away to a lady with a big farm....They were the 2 agressors, I did a lot of watching, I even got a spray bottle and when I would see the attacks I would shoot a stream of water on them, they would stop, but as soon as I left it...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

We'll last night we coated all the bald spots with blue cote and put a few dabs of Vicks on each hen with the bald spots, seems to have stopped most of the pecking, well see.

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

Well, it's been almost a year since my last post on this subject, the picking has never stopped, I do let them out to free range while I'm out there, they still pluck eachother, they all show signs of being plucked, and I see almost all of them doing some plucking, I'm ready to give up, I've...

Molt: Optimize Feather Regrowth with Proper Nutrition

UPDATE on the "Feather Fixer" feed, my 6 hens were pretty pecked, their necks were bare and most of the fuzzy butt feathers were gone, after 1 month on this feed their feathers are mostly all regrown. I HIGHLY recommend this feed, I will keep my birds on it all year as it has many other...

Caution, string over run can be a mistake!

I had aviary netting over the outside corral/run for my chooks cause there are Hawks in the area, well as the leaves fell it kept catching them, got weighted down so I removed it and used string to weave a top layer of webbing to keep the hawks out, I used the fence and made the openings around...

    molting/protein?

I had a big problem with plucked feathers, I started feeding that Feather Fixer feed and the results are amazing,, the feathers are all coming in nicely. I am going to continue feeding that feed even after their feathers come back. There was an article about the feed earlier this month on this...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

They were terrible today, my poor BR is taking most of the picking, she has a complete blue coat neck now, I think I'll rename her blue beard. I got a squirt bottle of water tonight and I nailed the ones that are doing the most picking, they didn't like it and stopped, but I can't stay out...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

Well there at it again, I don't think they ever stopped, just slowed down a little. They have the neck on my BR almost bare, everyone has scrapes, feathers missing, I think there lacking something other than Protein, I've been making a mash almost every day of their feed, scrambled egg, boss...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

Thanks everyone, I will use moderation on the protein treats, I think they are getting bored, and that could be a cause. I don't want to give them too many treats cause they will eat less of their feed. I usually hang an apple from a string or a cob of corn, that keeps them busy for quite a...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

The coop and run are sand, hardware cloth buried and outward under the cement pavers. I have a family of Hawks living near, they wouldn't stand a chance if I let them free range, like I said, next year we will be enlarging the run. I took my wild birdfeeders down a while ago, the hawks have...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

The coop is 4X4 and the enclosure is 12X5 we are going to make a bigger run next year. I know it's borderline on the size. The pecking has let up, I also noticed there is a full moon...? maybe that's the problem. They had a cob of fresh corn and a mash made out of shredded wheat crumbs...

Everyone is pulling out eachothers feathers... WHY?

I mixed some mealworms 58% protein with some wet dog food 26%, a couple scrambled eggs and some water, they ate it all plus I threw in a few watermelon rinds to keep them busy and they seem to have backed off their pecking, not completely, but much less than yesterday, Thanks for the ideas..I'll...
