Laying chicken laid a tiny egg today

This is the very small egg I found today by my California White pullet. She has been laying for only about 4 weeks now after recovering from a bad frostbite episode where she lost part of one of her feet in December of 2013. I had introduced a sweet roo who is a few months older and she...

    YOGURT FOR CHICKENS ?

Here is my 2 cents. I add organic plain yogurt to the bowl and put the feed on top of the feed once a week. I put organic apple cider vinager in the water once a week. I offer oregano oil once a week on a seperate day in the water feeder to assist as a natural antibiotic. I let them range as...

    YOGURT FOR CHICKENS ?

I have heard from the "Chicken Dr." guy via a online broadcast recently held by the "chicken whisperer" webpage and other blogs that chickens cannot process dairy and therefor do not benefit from the giving of yogurt. That it is needed to give them probiotic powder instead. Is there someone who...

Broken feather (with blood) on feathered foot. Hurts.

Can someone post a photo of what a broken blood feather looks like? I think I have this situation but am not sure. I noticed my very fluffy white legghorn frizzle roo had some black between his rear end feathers. I looked and it appeared he had a tick. But he screamed when I tried to take it...

Why did my chicken lay a soft, rubbery egg? Is she sick?

My hens have started to lay just a few weeks ago and found a softy in an unusual place, near where I quarentined the roo. Normaly they are laying in a ground nest they created in the coop area.. The roo has a tick or something so I dusted him with some DE and put him in a large crate outside...

Help, one day old chick not doing well

Thank you yes, I agree and was watching the temps. I decided to sit with them today, and took a run to the grocery store and got some pedialite for children when I saw a slight improvement after giving her what I could. I also read there was some success with mashed toufu, so the next best thing...

Help, one day old chick not doing well

Hello, About half my eggs hatched and are doing good, except the last one is clearly weak. I have her in a little seperated box within the brooder box so she does not get trampled and have the heat up but when I have it all the way at the 99.5 temp it seems to stress her. Is there some thing...

Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

Also, the white birds were called a Slow Cornish Cross at the grange. Which I understand now is also called sometimes a Cornish Rock. So the red one was a mystery and became darker and is smaller but otherwise looked similar.

Help! 3 eggs cracked in incubator in a row at about 10 days

I cant find reasons for this except I suspect humidity. We have humidity here where I live in the cascade mountains so I stopped adding water. I have been running the bator at 99.5 fairly consistantly. They were located in the center under the fan. I am using a little giant incubater as my hens...
