I own a pre '70's Leahy Famous Incubator Model 1200, made of 1 3/4" Redwood, 8 trays, good for 1000 eggs...21"W x 46"D x 54"H
I bought it to restore it and sell it after I have at least one hatch just for fun...I've been doing a lot of research on the subject of incubators and found out that GQF...
Hello chicken folks! I have property in the north Georgia Mountains and would like to see a birds running around and sharing eggs with my neighbors. However it appears after a bad experience with dogs, that I will have to do some more fencing...I lost 7 out 8 turkeys and 6 out of 13...
I wouldn't clip their wings, it is their ability to fly quickly up-wards that could save them from a preditor. Besides they are dumb, if food and their lodging is a 4 star motel, why would they leave? As long as you have a place they will roost in the evenings, they should be fine. JMO
At this point I'll try it on the next bag....I can't help think what a farmer 150 years ago would have done to solve the problem...other than butchering them.
Yes, I've been feeding them layer as well as free range...lately they have been kept in the coop...to see if they are laying....but no success....I had a small RIR hen laying until a predator ( I assume a raccoon ) got it, now I'm hunting coon!!!!!!
I hope all of you are right, however I sold a pair of Speckled Sussex ( rooster & hen ) and that hen started laying two days after being at her new home. However, I'm enjoying watching them free range and following me around... so I really wouldn't have made chicken soup...
I'll be there with you on Tuesday morning...that is, I'm having surgery as well...C 6/7 Fusion in neck....You'll be fine and will come out of this with a great feeling! God Bless
Kargo....being young is tough stuff, being a parent isn't any easier either. Your headed in the right direction by asking for advise, but be careful of the advise you receive... from people who don't know you, but are trying to help. Your family members are on your team, they know and love...
The spray foam IMO is over kill and very messy, not to mention sticky. With everything being square you shouldn't have any big gaps,...there fore I would go with the roll insulation and remember chickens have survived the Vermont winters for many, many years...and because we don't want to be...
When mine are free ranging... if a leaf falls or a butterfly is over head, they run for cover....if a predator hasn't taught you a lesson yet it is just a matter of time and they will....watch for the neighbor's dog Fido and the hawk.
I would wait until they can fly a bit and run like the dickens....also buy some guineas as watch dogs for them...and it helps that you stick around while they are grazing...I had neighbor dogs from 2 miles away kill 7 out of 8 turkey's and 6 chickens one day when I wasn't there for the afternoon.
