I got quite a surprise today

I heard the unmistakable sound of the egg song this morning really really loud, I kept checking and nothing. (My other 2 pullets are pretty quiet when they lay) I've been waiting for the last 2 to start so I kept hearing the song and running out (and it's a balmy 5 or so). I couldn't find...

    Food Scraps?

I've only fed mine leftover fruit and salad so far, but they are only 29 weeks old and just started laying. I want to make sure all their nutritional needs are met before I start feeding them scraps. They LOVE B.O.S.S. so they get a handful of them almost every day :)

I got quite a surprise today

Update It is only one of the 4 (flock leader Eartha). I caught her laying by the big door Friday about 10:30-11:30 am and waited until she came out in the run and sure enough there was an egg there, still warm. I checked Saturday about every hour or so and there was one between 3:30 and 5:30 pm...

I got quite a surprise today

I'm in SE MI so it has been a horrific winter here. Today was pretty nice so I figured I'd clean out the hen-house (it's been about 2-3 weeks since it was warm enough to stir it up) so I opened the big door and started getting the clumps of poop out and found one that was rather blueish green...

This guy needs a new home ASAP S.E. MI

I just drove him out to Corunna this afternoon. He's going to have 8 hens and open range, really nice lady, he did well on the drive out. Hopefully the adjustments with his new flock and my girls will be smooth. I think it's a great match :)

This guy needs a new home ASAP S.E. MI

Quote: I don't know, I've never shipped an animal before. I MAY have someone about an hour away that will take him. ( I say may because this is the 3rd person that has offered and the other 2 backed down). I'll update this when I see if it falls through or not :/

This guy needs a new home ASAP S.E. MI

This is "Tiggy"(winkle) I got him as a sexed pullet, he is a 16 week old E.E. cockerel. I was going to keep him until spring for extra warmth in the coop but he found his voice a couple days ago and it's really loud :( I live too close to my neighbors to keep him and the peace. He's been on...

    Should I keep my cockerel?

I am really on the fence whether I should keep my cockerel or give him up. I had no intention of having a rooster I just wanted a handful of laying chickens but this one seems as dumb as a box of rocks. He takes longer to catch onto things and I just don't see him becoming a "flock leader"...

Boy, girl, or too early ? ...picture heavy... updated 8 weeks

I posted this on another thread and was informed this may get more hits. I just have a gut feeling my "pullet" Tiggy (winkle) is not a pullet. She/he is feathering slower than the others, the coloring in the feathers is getting brighter and splotchier and the tail is different. I managed to get...

Can anyone tell me if this little girl is a bantam?

I got all these chicks together as sexed EE pullets. Daffodil, the little orange one is developing at the same rate as the others, just smaller. She's holding her own with the first round of the pecking order but she's a good 1/3 smaller than the others.

    Purina Inspired Coop

I say inspired because we changed quite a bit on it. We started out with a budget of $250. We did not make it, we came in at around $400. (and we used a lot of lumber etc. we already had here). The only nails we used were on the shingles, everything else was screwed. This is to house 5 pullets...

Boy, girl, or too early ? ...picture heavy... updated 7-1/2 weeks

Quote: They'll be 6 weeks on Tuesday. The lighting was definitely not in my favor yesterday. That one is one of the bolder ones, really nosy and first in line for everything. She/he is also the only one that chirps and the comb is a bit pinker than the others. I'll try to get some better pics...

What sex are these Easter Eggers?

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the proper forum/thread. This is a video I took of my chicks Saturday. They were 4-1/2 weeks old. Ever since Tiggy (winkle) started getting new feathers I've had a sneaking suspicion she is not a she. I think this video shows more than I could get in a still...
