I bought some "welsummers"... are they roos???

Quote: Have to agree, both roos. Have 6 Wellies that are 13 wks. old and 4 are roos. They are a very pretty bird though. One at 8 wks old started crowing and he is a Jim Dandy, and so's his name, now all 4 are and they don't shut up all day. Claude

Cute pics. Have a little pug's that thinks he owns me, but when I got my chicks, he thought I disowned him. But now that I let them roam with him , some how he understands and lays with them and roams with them. He's a happy camper now. One of these days pics.. Good job. Claude

I **LOVE** my Black Star Chicks!

Those are some nice looking chicks. I have 2 pullets also and I though, Gezzz, these are going to be some ugly birds, but now at 12 weeks old the feathering is coming in nicely and when the sun hits them, they are most striking. My 2 Stars are Brenda and Bell. Claude

I have a couple of chicks I need help identifying, both came from TSC

I'll go with the Wellies or LBLH on #1, both are good looking birds when they're grown. #2 kinda looks like my Leghorn when she was a chick, but there are to many breeds close to that color. Claude

trining chiks to come to you

Food is the magic answer. Mine are a mixed flock of 10 wk. old RIR, BR's, Welsummers and BSL's and 1 over friendly LH. I give them bread; which they love; worms or just about anything. I set with them aleast twice a day and talk to them while the treats are in session then set down on a bale of...

So, are my Barred Rocks Chicks or Dudes? :)

Going by the blacking on the shanks, I'll go with the first 4 guesses. I only have 8 that are about 9wks. old and some are BIG, and have red combs that are starting to fall over and wattles are red. Claude

    Okay, wait....breed, age, sex? Confused!

Kinda look like my welsummer chicks at that age. Ended up with 4 roo's and 2 pullets. The roo's are getting real pretty now and 1 has a huge red comb and wattles and thinks he can crow. His name; Jim Dandy. Claude

Another warmth question - 8 week olds and temps in the 30's

Mine are about 9wks. old and I put them out in kennel 2 wks. ago when the weather was nice. I always kept a heat lamp on them at night in the brooder if they got cold, but leave the kennel open all the time if they want to go out. Our weather is a little strange right now, but I replacied the...
