My banty hen had fowl pox when her eggs hatched. Three weeks later, two of the three chicks died with bumps on their beaks. The third is still alive but has bumps also. Mamma is fine. New to me.
Well, now she's 100%a except for a hard mass under one eye. How do i get rid of it? ???? Polymycin B and steroids really helped. But this mass has me stumped.
Now, I just put my little bantam rooster in with my large hens about 3 weeks ago. One of the hens laid a very tiny egg today. She has never before laid a tiny egg. Are you sure rooster size doesn't affect egg size?
Ok. So now, several weeks later and much Tylan, neosporin, polymycin B and steroids, the hen feels great but has this hard mass under one eye. How do i get rid of it?
I have been treating my hen with swollen eyes for about 10a weeks. Tylan50 did not work. Neomycin ans polymyxin B did not work. Neither did Baytril. Out of despiration i started an eyedrop with Dexamethasone. Shes the much, much better now.
My hen has had nasty swollen eyes for 3 weeks. I've tried Tylan, Baytril. I've put neosporin in on her eyes. I've cleaned them, fed her raw eggs by hand. I'm out of ideas.
Thank you all very much for this information. One of my hens has these symptoms. I do beleive they were preceded by some kind of injury, since she also has infection around her neck. I will get Tylan tomorrow. Have been using Baytril and Amoxi since i alteady had it, and Terrmycin salve on eyes...
I have rescued Akitas for over 25 years. I've had chickens for about 12. Despite the fact my chickens share their home with 40+ large dogs, I've only had 2one fatal encounters- one tiny biddy that got through a fence and was stepped on, and a young hen who was in the wrong place when Publix...
This is Roadrunner, my little Bantam 'stray' chicken. He enjoys hanging out in the mancave, watching NASCAR and eating bologna sandwiches. Roadrunner needs a girlfriend. The Rhode Island Red hens will not have a thing to do with him. Is there a singles service for handsome roosters?
I have a hen with some kind of sinus infection. I have plenty of Cephlexine, so that is what I'm going to use. Does anyone think I am making a terrible mistake?

Did anyone catch the show on NPR 'This American Life' on Saturday? It was all about chickens. One funny story was a man who died and went to heaven, only to find out that God was a 30' tall chicken. Now, if that were indeed true.....wouldn't ya hate to have died from choking on a chicken bone???
My rooster was badly attacked by a dog, and I had to keep him fed and hydrated for about a week after the attack. I swear by Gatorade Rain - he still loves it to this day. I credit it with saving his life. We did give him Baytril injections and fed him raw egg yoke - but the Gatorade Rain worked...
I posted earlier in the week about my rooster who was wheezing, sneezing and had a goopy eye. The vet prescribed .5 cc Baytril injectable twice daily for three days. The rooster is fine now, so just FYI, Baytril did work for him. I am ordering some of the Oxine described in the FAQ section, but...
My Rooster is exhibiting the same symptoms. He was fine this morning, but when I went to close the coop tonight, he was missing. I found him sitting in his favorite hole, wheezing and sneezing with a goopy eye. I copied the article on Oxine and will take it to the vet tomorrow. I hope he does not...
Thank you so much, Caralouise. I did not intend to kill her, but if this ever happens again, I'll know some other things to try. Since Rooster was by himself, we got a new hen today (one destined for a bitter end I'm sure, from the farmers' market). I named her Hillary because she's a tough girl...
Did ya'll actually massage the chicken's crop? I tried to do that last night and my 5 year old pet hen died in my hands. She threw up, flapped her wings twice, and died. What did I do wrong?
