This is my 2nd coop and houses 17 hens. Electric line trenched from first coop for lighting and a heat pan for the water during winter. Just hope they don't ask for WiFi!!
My second coop is now all but finished with electric in and the first coat of pain on. Just need to put the gutter on the front and vent shutters on the back before they ask for WiFi too.
I recently had to have a 19 year old cat put down and didn't want to have to drive a long distance to a vet. I was given the card of a Vet who makes house calls and then found out that she's avian qualified too.
The cat was put down and, although they advertise no surgeries in the home, the...
If you have access to fresh pumpkins get them to eat the seeds. Pumpkin seeds will paralyze the parasites and they will pass through theri systems and help them immensely. If this isn't possible see if there's an avian vet in your area that you can call for assistance.
I would recommend just letting things run their course to see if things change again. In the meantime read up on all the various symptoms related to diseases/infections of this type to better determine what to do if it comes up again. I would make sure that the vet you visit is avian qualified.
ApiaryandAviary - I went through knee surgery last year. I was home in three days and back to work in seven. Off Crutches by the end of the second week and off the cane by the third. If you follow your physical therapist's instructions you'll be back on your feet and feel much better in no...
Do you mean the one that said you didn't complete the survey so you don't get a free bag of feed? Yes, I got it and I'm a bit upset because it looks and acts like a sort of malicious attack by someone who knows there way around sites like this and they baited people to respond. It may be a...
What made you choose a particular breed of chicken?
After some discussion with others who have mixed and "pedigree" flocks I decided that I didn't want all one type in my flock so I decided to play "Noah" and picked two of several (Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, Silver Wyandotte, Gold...
Well, it's confirmed, of the 12 chickens I picked from a person who found them to be too much work three turned out to be Rhode Island Red Roosters. They are coming up on 12 weeks of age showing some beautiful coloring and developing their teenage voices. Sadly I don't want or need roosters in...
No worries on the coops size this round. The first is a 5' wide x 6' long x 6' high and houses 14 birds comfortably. I learned a lot about that one and how the chicks used the space and nests. This one is going 6' wide' 8' long and 8' high. It will accommodate 20 birds easily. I would...
I live in Philomont between Middleburg and Purcellville. I just received 5 of the 7 chicks I ordered from Meyer Hatchery (3 Australorps, 1 Barred Rock and a Buff) the welsummer I wanted didn't hatch and they short changed me one barred rock. I'm expecting 3 welsummers and the Barred Rock to...
Just received 5 of the seven chicks I ordered and a friend dropped of a dozen 5 week old chicks that she just wanted her kids to see as they grew up a bit but didn't want to keep. I think I have to finish the new coop today!
Since Silkies are not heat tolerant I would think that where you're at and this time of year that you should be okay. How cold does it get during the winter and what type of housing do you have for her?
When did you get your Silkie and at what age was she when you got her?
I have 14 hens...
ProShepherd, what I meant by prohibitive was both the time and the space. I am working things here toward having something to occupy my time once I retire (hopefully in five years) and I want to expand the livestock that I have without too much disruption for the lay of the land. What I'm...
