Thank you for your help. I soaked her as long as she would let me and put her back out with the other hens. She is behaving more like herself this evening. Hopefully she will continue in the right direction.
Yesterday everybody looked great, and normal behavior. Today my 3 year old hen is acting possible egg bound: sitting, looks like she is pushing, I could not feel anything hard. My biggest concern is that her comb is also pale. Any ideas? suggestions?
My chickens are doing the same thing now. Why a chicken wants to molt when the weather starts getting cold is beyond me!? We are down to 2 or 3 eggs a day. Our chicken run looks like someone has been plucking chickens.
Barred Rocks are my favorite chicken. The next time I get chickens I plan to get a variety of Rocks. Here is my favorite, Taloola, as a chick and adult.
Last year we ordered 8 pullets. There was one I was keeping an eye on right up until she finally laid an egg. She sure had me worried. She stood like a rooster and was a bully too. She thinks that she is the chicken in charge.
I went to let the chickens out of the coop this morning and found Clara, a one year old Rhode Island Red, dead on the floor of the coop. No signs of egg bound, I looked her over and couldn't find anything to tell why she died. I only have 8 chickens, they are my pets. I knew everyone here...
I ordered eight pullets from MPC last spring. They all arrived safetly and all have grown up to be great egg layers! I was very pleased with MPC and will order from them again if I decide to add more chickens.
I had a hen with mareks symptoms last fall. I just made sure the others left her alone and that she was able to get to the food and water. Now you would never be able to tell there was ever a problem. No other birds have had any symptoms.
