    Looking for an Isbar!

Hope this post is ok to be here. Are there any isbar breeders (also known as Silverudd's Blues) in Kentucky or southern Indiana? Might consider making the trip to northern Tennessee as well. We really really want to add some isbar pullets to our flock, really need chick's, 1-2 weeks old. Thanks...

Adult Coturnix Quail with possible wry neck??

Hi all! I have a sick quail on my hands. She was all fluffed up like she was cold yesterday but was otherwise acting fine and alert. Today I found her with her head turned back like she was sleeping. When she turned around to look at me, her head and neck were flopping all over, side to side...

    Sick chicks!

I hatched out my first clutch of eggs using an incubator. The little giant still air brand. Since I was new and being as the first few days the eggs didn't have the right temp I just kinda assumed none would hatch. 3 out of 18 did. One died the day I brought them out of the incubator, it never...

    Too hot for eggs??

So here in Kentucky our temps have just gone from 50s&60s to 80s. And suddenly I've gone from getting 7-8 eggs a day to 4. They have plenty of food, water, and shade. Can the spring/summer heat affect their egg production?

    First time with incubator help!

Ok so about a month ago I bought one of those foam little giant incubators. I now have eggs in it , put them in last night. The temp won't go past 98.9-99.1 is that enough for the chicks to hatch with? I lost the receipt so I can't return it. A friend has an incubator she's running and may have...

    Adding a new roo, tips?

I have 3 hens that were with a mature rooster for as long as I've known, but sadly he turned mean and drew blood on several occasions so he's gone. I have a new roo I'm looking at and was wondering how he would be or more importantly how the hens would be if I went on and put him in the coop...

    Roo or hen??

We let our broody Dominique hen hatch and raise 2 chicks late last summer, both are grown now and are different breeds. One is an australorp hen, she just laid her first egg yesterday :D The other, Doodle, we thought was a roo, but he hasn't begun crowing, and our dom hen that he is with has...

What would you call this comb?

Our almost 1 yr old roo, who we think is an OE/EE cross, has an odd comb. I know what a rose comb is, and a regular 'single' comb, but I have no idea what his is. Any ideas?

    New Quail Owner! Any help?

Hi all! I'm getting 12 coturnix quail tomorrow and I'm new to them in general. I do have chickens, but never had quail. Any tips, do's or dont's? I was going to put them in an extra tractor supply brand chicken coop I have sitting around, but wasn't sure if they will climb the ramp up to the...

    Egglaying Question

I have a bit of a dumb question :) I know some chicken breeds tend to have bigger eggs than others, but as they start laying will their eggs get bigger as they grow? Also, sort of the same concept, I have a Dominique hen who during one of her broody spells I let hatch out 2 eggs. She just...

    Predator or mean hen??

I went to collect eggs this morning from our flock of 3hens and a rooster. We have a barred rock, golden laced wyandotte and bantam white legbar. They share a large nesting box and usually lay really well and get along great. Today the legbar egg and barred rock eggs were smashed and the...

Olive egger eggs or Americauna eggs??

Hi everyone! So our hen whom we assumed was an Americauna due to her looks has started to lay! She has laid two eggs so far and both are green. In the pictures I've seen of Americauna green eggs they were a lighter shade. I'll post a picture shortly, but the shade of the eggs makes me think she...

    Will she lay again??

Ok so I have a Dominique hen, she is about 3 years old now, every spring and late summer/early fall she got broody. I felt bad for her so I gave her 2 fertile eggs and she hatched them. The babies are now about 4 or 5 months old and look pretty mature. She hasn't laid any more eggs since they...

Anyone out there who has chicken/guinea fowl crosses?

I have what I think is an australorp-guinea fowl cross. I didn't breed for her, I got her as an unhatched egg with a couple others who turned out polish/australorp for my broody Dominique hen. She's deffinitely a hen, but I was wondering if she has the possibility of laying eggs in the future...

What can I use for yard cover?

My friend and I built/finished a coop for our 6 chickens, it was our first home-made coop and we're newbies to having chickens that aren't free range. It turned out really well but there has come a slight problem. the whole thing is stationary. the 'yard' was just grass, well as chickens do the...

I have one barred rock and two rhode island red hens, yesterday i noticed one of the reds was moving slower than the rest when i let them out of the coop. She is moving still very slow and sluggish, holds her head close to her body, not outstretched neck like normal hens, and her comb is...
