Adding new chickens to an established flock

Hello, I am looking for help on how to ease the transition of adding new chickens to an existing flock. My new chickens have been living outside in a separate run attached side by side to my original hens for 2 months now. Originally there was a lot of pecking but that seems to have settled...

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

Well, not sure if the golf ball solved the problem or if she just started seeing the other girls laying in the nesting box. But for the past 2 days she has been laying in the nesting box with the rest of them!!

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

Hopefully once they move into the new coop, she will start laying in the nesting box. They don't seem stressed & get to be loose in the yard for a few hours in the morning & again in the evening but I understand that could be the reason. Thank you!

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

I'm not sure of the dimentions off the top of my head. It said it would hold 6-8 chickens but I agree it does look like they could use more room, I definitley wouldn't put 8 in there! They aren't crammed in there but they could use more room. My husband is currently building them a bigger one...

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping that its just because they are young. They are only a little over 5 months old & she's only laid about 3-4 times! Hopefully she will figure it out, guess I'll have to wait & see!!

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

I have 6 chickens & 3 nesting boxes. I bought a ready made coop that has the nesting boxes "upstairs" with a ramp that goes down from the nesting area to the run. It's very easily accessed so I'm thinking that either she's the bottom of the pecking order or she's still young & too busy or waits...

1 chicken out of 6 not laying in nesting box, how do I correct this!

Hello, My chickens have just started laying about a month ago. They all lay in the nesting boxes & seemed to have figured it out on their own & right away except for one! She always lays in the run in the absolute worst spot right next to their water! The other chickens are stepping all over...

Lethargic chicken, not acting herself should I be worried?!

Thank you so much!! I figured it was probably heat related but wasn't 100% sure! I will be out changing the water to keep it cool a little more often today & hopefully that prevents it. She seems back to herself today! Thank you very much!!

Lethargic chicken, not acting herself should I be worried?!

Hello, I am a first time chicken owner & have six 5 month old RIR chickens. Today when I let them out to do some free ranging, I had one that hung out inside the coop as the others came running out. When she eventually made her way out & into the yard she just stood there & stared at out shed...

Training chickens to go in at night...

Hello, I have the exact same coop as you. I was also having a really hard time catching my chickens from the part of the run that was under the coop & decided to just leave the coop door open & let them go inside when they are ready. Mine free range all day, then I heard them all back into the...

    Cleaning chicken coop

Hello all, I'm new to raising chickens, just got our first chicks 2 weeks ago. Although it will be a while before they make their way into the outdoor coop I had a few questions that I figure would be better to know now rather than at the last minute when they will be going outside! I was...

Hello, new member & 1st time chicken owner!

I agree that it's definitley worth the work to look into exactly which breeds you want, I did the same thing! I can't wait to see your pictures I got my chicks from a local farm & feed store that was luckily right in the center of our town. I know you can order chicks online & sometimes you can...

Hello, new member & 1st time chicken owner!

Thanks. Love the combo of breeds you are getting! Silkie's are my absolute favorite breed, they are so cute! I wanted some of those but they were only being sold as straight run & I really wanted to have pullets only. Maybe one day down the road I can add to my flock! Hopefully you have some...
