I've got too many males. Most of them are going in the freezer, but this particular one is far to beautiful and sweet, so I thought it'd be best to give him away. He is a rare blue coturnix Quail, perfectly healthy, born in April, not aggressive at all, raised cage free, and he has very pretty...
Thanks, but aren't ground dry garbanzo beans a common ingredient in homemade chicken & duck feed? Well, maybe garbanzo beans are just an exception to being poisonous.
Hi, I have Coturnix Quail, and I have lots of dry Lima beans (or butter beans) that I was thinking of grinding up for them to give them a little protein boost. The Lima beans would be grinded to cornmeal consistency, but aren't cooked or anything, so would it be bad or good for quails?
Update: Well, something interesting happened. The chicks outgrew their tank so I fenced off a small section in the juvenile quail pen and put them in it. The fenced in section has no covering, but I thought it'd be unlikely that the bigger quail would fly into their area. I was wrong. The...
I've got 19 day-olds so far and I expect a few more will hatch tonight and tomorrow. Once I release the new chicks in a couple of weeks, would they have safety in numbers? My enclosure is 60 square feet on the first level, and then the other levels (only a few of the quail use the upper levels)...
Hi, I have 32 coturnix quails that are almost 4 weeks old, and now I've just hatched some new baby quails. I put the babies in a tank inside of my quail pen, so the older quail can see them without touching them. The babies and the juveniles are very curious about each other, but I know I can't...
Hi, I have two Quail chicks, one 2 days old and one 3 days old, that walk around with their feet turned inward like this
I did some reading on how to correct the feet, and, as you can see, I tried to splint the toes with a bandaid but its not working out for me. I don't know how anyone can...
When I had ducklings, I read somewhere on the duck forum that ducklings don't need grit for eating insects. They only need grit for when they eat seeds or other things really hard to digest. I assumed the same applied for Quail chicks, but I just went and gave them some grit just to be safe.
Update: Well, my baby quails started hatching a couple days ago, and yesterday I decided to give them a few of my smallest live mealworms (1/4-1/2 inch) and see how they'd respond. They went NUTS for them! They swallowed them whole like it was nothing and went in a frenzy trying to get...
Hi, my coturnix Quail have been hatching since 2am yesterday. Most have been healthy, one I had to cull because it's legs were deformed, and one died in the incubator soon after hatching for some reason. But I just pulled a new hatchling out of the incubator, and when I picked him up he released...
I'm somewhat new to quail, but the cage does seem a bit tight for 4 quail. There needs to be at least 1 square foot of floor space per Quail, not including the space the feeders take up.
Thanks, my chicks should start hatching this weekend :). Btw buying off eBay is not as bad as you think. Why take time out of my busy schedule to go drive to a pet store, when I can order the same item for a cheaper price and have it delivered in 2-3 days (free of charge) to my doorstep? Then I...
