    She just died! :-\

My Charlotte passed yesterday morning. 2 1/2 years old, black sex link. She was laying soft eggs here and there and had one she couldn't pass. She was my sweet precious girl. I'm sorry for your loss.

Does clipping wings keep chickens in privacy fencing?

Heavier breeds won't necessarily keep them confined, I busted one of our Brahma hens on top of the 8' run just this week. She needed assistance to get down.

Feathers Missing and What Looks To Be Blood!

A couple of our girls have a similar thing going on. Ours is from them hopping up and down and rubbing against the hardware cloth when they see us outside. We release them from the run every afternoon before dusk so it's understandable that they get a bit excited when they spot us headed their...

Starting over - no more ranging

What you're doing is similar to the way we keep our flock. We have 6 black sex link hens in about a 10 x 20 hoop (pvc and hardware cloth) run with a smaller enclosed coop inside that for roosting and laying. We do lock them up in the small coop at night. It's one of those TSC ones that we...

    Boiled Eggs

It's science. Boil water. Place the eggs into boiling water so the white cooks immediately. Bring it back to a boil after you add the eggs and shut it off. Leave the pan on the burner. Set the timer for 20 minutes. Done~ Why? If you put them into water and bring to a boil the white adheres to...

Thermometer Reads 107 Fahrenheit! How do I keep my flock cool!?

I put out a big baking pan with water and a patio paver in it. My Chooks loved it! The paver wicks the moisture up and cools their feet and even with a bit of water over it it's not as scary as a wading pool for them. I used a large foil pan I picked up at Walmart and a grey patio stone from...
