    detatched air cells?

My shipped eggs have been in the incubator for 6 days. I candled them and most of them have detached air cells. Is it better to continue keeping them big end up in the incubator or should I lay them on their side? I appreciate any help since this is the first time I am dealing with detached air...

    heat pad question

I just received an order of eggs and the seller used two tiny heat pads taped to the outside bottom of my package. Are the pads usually used on the outside or do they normally get placed inside the box? It was a small box so maybe that is the reason it was on the outside?

    rumpless?

What is the name of the bantam that is rumpless? It does not have long tail feathers and it's rear looks rounded. I saw one recently and really liked it but can't recall the name.

    incubator/broody

Hi, I have serama eggs in the incubator and three under my broody. Will they hatch around the same time or does a broody take longer/shorter than an incubator?

When I place the eggs in the Brinsea Eco w auto turner do I make the eggs fit snug between the rails where the rails are touching both sides of the egg firmly or can I leave a tiny bit of room for the eggs to move? Can I place the eggs on their side? I have both wells filled with water and my...

    how cold is too cold?

My seramas laid some eggs a few days ago when the temperatures were between 40 and 60 degrees (3 different days). The hens were sitting on some of the eggs and some of them were in the lay box unattended. At what temperature will the cold kill the embryo? I was hoping to incubate them tomorrow...

    serama and silkie chicks

My babies are getting big so I figured I would share a few photos. My serama chicks a few days after I brought them home. They were so tiny. Serama chick hiding among the silkie chicks. I love watching their feathers come in and seeing the changes they go through each week. Some of them...

    collecting eggs

Yesterday I got my first egg. Yay! Eventually I want to try to incubate a batch. While I am collecting enough eggs to make a batch do I put the eggs in the fridge or leave them at room temperature and how long can I store them before they become infertile?

    rooster growling?

I have a 4 mnth polish rooster. A few weeks ago he started trying to peck us (which I stopped by putting my foot under him and sending him airborne or picking him up and carrying him around for several minutes). He has not tried pecking again but he has made this growling noise at my husband a...

need help with leg on new chick

Yesterday I bought a two week old silkie chick with a problem leg/foot. The breeder said it was born with a gimp leg. I looked at the leg and it does not appear to be broken but it's leg may be a little thicker around than the other one. It's foot is curled up and inward and it won't put any...

    Seramas

I'm so excited! I will be going to pick up some week old serama chicks this week. At what age can they be sexed and does anyone have any advice on raising them. I currently have silkies and polish but the seramas are much smaller so I'm a little nervous.

    ceiling fan?

I have 5 chicks that range from 2-5 weeks old . They are currently in a brooder inside my home but I would love to put the brooder outside on my large covered back porch. I would cover the top with hardware cloth to make sure no stray cats get them since we live in a residential area. I have a...

    Cocci ?

I recently bought 8 baby chicks from a breeder out of town. They are in a brooder inside my house and have not been taken outside yet or been around my other chickens. Over the last few days three of the chicks died. They were eating and drinking but some of them seemed weak when I bought them...

    new chicks and color question

Out of 28 eggs that I incubated this is the only chick that made it. I have never seen such a crazy, hyper and aggressive little bird. The way it stomped on the 2 chicks that hatched (they passed) and played kick ball with all of the other eggs in the incubator reminds me of wild birds that push...

    day old chick

I have a silkie chick that hatched around 7am yesterday. It is super tiny and seems weak. It does not open it's eyes much and although it does not seem to have trouble walking it acts very sleepy. It even stands with it's eyes closed. The chick is dry but not fulffy but that may be caused by the...
