    Rebuilding the Flock

@Magnolia Ducks awesome, I did the stuffed animal, I will get him a mirror! And @DuckyDonna I have built a 16’x8’ run for them but I don’t feel thats a great quality of life 24/7. Do you let them free range when you’re home? Thank you guys for the responses!

    Rebuilding the Flock

Hi everyone! It’s been a while but I’m in need of the byc family for advice and guidance again. I’ve had ducks for about a year and a half now and I always let them into my fenced in backyard in the morning and put them back into their shelter at night. I work 12 hr days (usually a little...

    Splayed Leg

@Miss Lydia no progress, it seems when I try putting on a hobble (I don’t stick any tape to the leg or put it on tight) the leg swells more until the hobble is tight around it. The duckling seems to be starting to opt against moving at all, I’m concerned the most humane thing I can do at the...

    Splayed Leg

Well compared to the other ducklings that hatched, this one pipped much farther away from the air pocket than the others if that makes sense

    Splayed Leg

Definitely possible but I think since it came out the side of the egg rather than the air pocket that it probably happened there. By the time the duckling was fully hatched I think it was the only one in the incubator though

    Splayed Leg

Never done it before today but looked it up and gave it my best shot, everything seems solid and in place though

    Splayed Leg

Jeez, to think, I came here for reassurance

    Splayed Leg

So if it’s not splay leg should I take off the hobble? It’s definitely prohibiting the duckling from moving as much but is keeping his feet under him at least and he’s starting to spread his feet right

    Splayed Leg

Looks to me like the leg has no problem reaching the same length/position as the other leg if I move it into position

    Splayed Leg

I took these photos earlier today before putting the hobble on. Not sure if I should take it off anytime soon for more pictures.

    Splayed Leg

Here’s a picture of the ducklings feet when first hatched. The one on the right is the one that’s messed up

Just looked up perosis, and that might be the problem due to swelling. This has been an issue since hatch though. Any sure indicators it’s perosis or splayed leg? Doesn’t really seem to hurt the duckling

As of the last day or so. It was swollen before I tried putting the leg hobbles on

    Splayed Leg

Hi everyone, hatched some new ducklings on the 21st. One duckling took a day longer to hatch and came out the wrong side of the egg. One foot came out kind of balled up and would seem to get better after swimming and I hoped with proper amounts of niacin plus additional poultry vitamins and...

    Ducks for Pond

If I have to feed them every night I'm screwed, I'd be willing to plant stuff but and could probably manage grains like once every two weeks but that's it.

    Ducks for Pond

So I was thinking I could put a floating coop and some sort of fountain to keep the water from freezing. But I'm also aware that might not be enough.

    Ducks for Pond

I'm currently in the process of buying a little over 52 acres in Maine for recreational and vacationing purposes and will fully own by the end of next month. The property has a small stream with a large cove and another medium sized pond. Current owner said they don't dry up or anything. Of...

In a bit of a predicament

When I integrated my flock, my drakes were also my issue. I could not put the new ducks in the run! So one day I let out only my hens and the new ducks, and brought them to a new part of the yard that they weren't totally familiar with. I let out my drakes and they went at the new ducks, I...

Looking ahead - What are your spring plans?

I couldn't handle the anticipation that comes with waiting and put 6 eggs in the incubator yesterday... and I know it's crazy, I'm crazy, but we might just try to imprint on my dog !

    More Eggs Than Ducks

I do not think anyone was hiding eggs unless they rolled them in from outside. I only have one nesting box that all the eggs were in and I thoroughly check every time
