Thank you very much for your help. I have a very hard time calculating dosage. Will run by feed store tomorrow to see what they have, might have to order online. Thanks so much! :-)
TAPEWORMS???? Good God, that is even more disgusting. Found some white larvae looking things in droppings today, and they were much smaller than the last ones--- tiny worms, maybe 1/10 size of grain of rice. Still squirming around. So this round of Piperazine did nothing to quell this latest...
Thank you ThreeHorses, this thread is brilliant and timely. I found little worms on Friday in hen droppings, (rice sized, maggot looking, squirming around), and I am so grossed out that I nearly threw in the towel. I have had a rotten summer with my birds and just felt defeated. Out of 9 laying...
So now I am noticing my "hen" is growing spurs!!! :lol:And I was shocked that Mr. Timid-Henpecked-Runs from Everything actually mated with two of my girls yesterday!!!!! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. Still very mellow with the crowing--- So far the grandchildren don't...
Thanks everyone. Yes, I guess he is a roo...So far the crowing is just in the morning a few times, and if I try to sneak up on the coop, he'll kind of see me slinking by the guesthouse and will holler about it. So far the girls aren't impressed by his manliness... I just threw a few heads of...
P.s. i am just now noticing the tail feathers are kind of long... I had only had this bird two days before the dog attack, and all of the tail feathers were plucked out by the dog, one wing was broken, and the bird had deep, deep puncture wounds in the back and neck area.
Hope I did the image upload correct. If so:
Here is my bird. Is it an Americauna? Its name is Hawky because my kids think it looks hawk-like. Does it look like a roo???? It only crowed twice yesterday and three times this morning. Neighbor's roo lets it rip all day. What do you all think...
So I posted here back in June right after a dog attacked and killed 3 of my flock. One "hen" barely survived. It had just been given to me by a lady amateur breeder, sold as a banty HEN and supposedly full grown. Well, I almost euthanized it after the attack, but just couldn't do it, so nursed...
Thank you for the clean up offer! I managed to get it all cleaned up and dusted with DE and rearranged the coop. I love my birds. Sat out there with coffee this morning and just watched them scratching around. So sweet. The lone survivor of the attack might just make it. Last night I caught it...
Good information here, thank you. I had an idiot dog attack and kill 3 hens this week and wounded a 4th. I almost euthanized it and then didn't... It has some deep wounds. I left it alone, it has been 3 days. It will never be a normal bird again. It hides with her head in the corner between the...
I agree about certain dogs and chickens not being able to peacefully coexist. Our little dog killed 3 this week and I am nursing the 4th one back to health. Dog is in solitary confinement awaiting a new home. I've had it. Good luck.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. The one hen lived through the night, so maybe it will survive. The yard looks like 50 birds were slaughtered. No idea how I am going to clean it up--- feathers everywhere. Maybe I will wet everything down and rake it up. OHHHhhhh, so awful. I still don't...
So I am obviously not cut out for this hobby farm life. We bought a rat terrier a year ago to deal with the gophers and rattlesnakes. He did a good job. In March he climbed a tree and ate a nest full of baby birds. Then he caught a dove and ate it. Then he dug a hole, stole two pullets and...
There is a lady locally (Southern Calf.) who does it for $5 a bird. I think it might be illegal? I don't know. I read about the procedure and it is brutal. But my chicken lady was given several capons and just gave me one when she heard of my rooster saga. Apparently it is done to make the meat...
True, I do own it, BUT.... The wire mesh coop is 6 feet from their through-the-wall AC unit, which is basically like having a hole through the wall with nothing to block the noise. My grandbabies are only 2 and 4 years old, and sorta need a little bit of sleep. Also, my daughter and husband are...
Well the angry neighbors are my grandchildren and their parents who live in the guest cottage that happens to be next to the coop! My gorgeous banty mille fleur was louder than a full size roo!! He hollered every 30 seconds from 4 am until... well, it never stopped. Second night I caught him...
When mine do this, I take a few of the eggs first thing in the morning, and put one in each of the other boxes. By day's end, there are a few new eggs in each box.
How awesome for you! In our old house, we had nasty carpet in two rooms that the cats had destroyed. One day I ripped it all out of the formal living room and put down Pergo. It was very easy and looks awesome. Really, just clicked it together and put trim around the baseboards, with a T...
Argh, am I the only one who is irritated with my broody silkie? She will not budge off the nest, sits on everyone else's eggs, and she has stopped laying entirely. I have to reach under her big booty to get the eggs every morning, and she squeals and pecks at me. Evicted her to the yard and she...
