    Training a LGD with chickens

First off, I don't have any LDG's...yet. But in all my research about them, I came across this site and they had a great article about training your LGD. I have it bookmarked so that when I do get one, I will have a clear understanding on how to train it. Hope this helps...

Alaska hatchers..How is everyone doing? Baby pics !!!!!!

Quote: Most the time if your birds have access to regular good old dirt bathes they take care of most of their parasites. If needed we also add FOOD GRADE DE (Food Grade is the key word here) to our daily routine. I will dust them myself. In fact Norman, my beautiful, regal Black Copper...

Alaska hatchers..How is everyone doing? Baby pics !!!!!!

So excuse my ignorance on the subject But I thought I'd post here since I'd have plenty of fellow Alaskans able to educate me a bit. I have been reading on here about peoples problems with mites and lice and whatnot in their flocks. What kinds of pests do we have to deal with up here and what...

    Non Traditional Nesting Boxes

I have seen some people using small plastic bins/totes that they just put on the floor of the coop and fill with straw. It seems to work fine. Chickens don't care if their nesting boxes are top of line or pretty, simple will suffice. Also, I think milk crates would be good too. Good luck!

What does a gold sexlink chick look like??

Thank you for everyones replies! I have four yellows so far but one has a deeper gold color while the others are a soft yellow, like a BO, so I was guessing it might be a gold sexlink, but wanted to be compare it with others. Now my question is, seeing its a sexlink, what trait shows that it's...

What does a gold sexlink chick look like??

Hello! I have had some babies hatch over the last 36 hours and don't know the color difference between Buff Orpington and Gold Sex-link chickies. Supposedly I had both types in my batch of eggs. I know what the BO's look like but I'm not sure if the three yellow chicks I have are all the same...

Hello all! I have had an exciting couple of days. My first successful hatch started yesterday early morning when one of my 23 eggs hatched. Went to bed last night with five hatched, woke up this morning with 11 hatched! Have had four more hatch throughout the day. Not a bad hatch rate for my...

I have had both plugs out since they went into lockdown, that's why I am wondering if there is anything I can do without compromising the others still trying to hatch. I have five now!!

Alaska hatchers..How is everyone doing? Baby pics !!!!!!

I just have to say that I have enjoyed reading through all your posts! I have learned a lot from everyone. I am new to this whole chicken raisining thing and I am guessing it is different here in AK than down in the states, so thanks for unknowingly educating me! I had two failed incubations...

Humidity fogging windows, do I do anything to bring it down??

Okay, so this is my first successful hatch and so far I have four out of 23 with number five coming out any minute. But just in the last 10 minutes or so, the humidity has jumped to 80+ and is fogging up the windows. I know typically I shouldn't open the bator at all, but do I need to do...

WOOHOO!! The kids and I just watched chickie number two pop out of its shell! It was so exciting!! There are seven more that have pipped, one of those isn't far behind number two. This is exciting for me after two unsuccessful hatches of a doz eggs each. I now know what I was missing out on...

    My first successful hatch!!!!!!

Okay, so despite all the critters that I have, as recently as March, my house was completely critter free. I jumped in feet first with my eyes closed, so I am still a complete newbie. The chicks I already have, I bought from a local hatchery. So....my question with my hatch is, how long is my...

    My chicks were due yesterday

Don't give up hope just yet! If I've learned anything from two failed attempts and one sucessful one in progress, it's that they will come out in their own time. I wouldn't worry that nothing has happened yet until day 23 or so. Whatever you do, DO NOT open the incubator at all! I didn't know...

    My first successful hatch!!!!!!

Okay, so I tried the incubation thing a couple months ago as a homeschool project for my son. But, because of my lack of kowledge and overall ignorance, I had no success. It was quite dissappointing. I recommend throwing the directions that come with your incubator away as a first step to...
