How ELSE to get Calcium into the chicken

For the past two weeks, I have on occasion been disappointed to go to collect eggs in the afternoon, only to find the entire day's production coated with dried yolk and dirt. To me, these are beyond cleaning. I throw away the whole lot. Today I noticed one of my hens out in the yard, walking...

    Horrible treatment!

I can't watch those documentary things about animal cruelty. I understand there is evil in this world...I don't need to see a production piece especially edited to elicit a shock response, even if it flies under the radar of good intentions to "make us all aware" of injustices and animal...

    Fear of fresh eggs?

There's something very interesting going on with one of my nieces. I have a small flock (four barred rock hens, five production red hens, and a barred rock rooster) and they started laying in August, and continue to lay through the cold weather and despite the fact that quite a few of them are...

    Listless Hen

She's less than a year old. Today, same thing...just stayed off by herself, looking sad....not scratching or pecking. She went into the coop about an hour before sundown, got up on the roost and just sat there waiting for dark. DD

    Listless Hen

One of my hens seemed to be having a bad day today...she was just not herself...not pecking like the other hens, not gossiping...just kind of walking around like she was in a fog. I sure hope it's just a passing thing and that she's not sick or something. I know she laid an egg yesterday because...

You can't have your cake and eat it, too. People want roosters to be protective of their girls but not aggressive towards humans...think about that for a minute......they're chickens...they feel safe as long as they are all chickens, because they inherently know what to expect from another...

All laying in the same nest box-crowding/pushing

Here are my nest boxes, attached to the side of the coop. Inside are two nest areas, identical in size, both filled with clean hay. I have nine hens. They only use one of the boxes........and it's not unusual at all for me to find nine eggs in it every day, and no indication that anyone even...

    Hysterical Rooster Behavior

My Barred Rock rooster, Dominick, is pretty typical, I guess. He loves his nine girls; gives them the best of everything and always looks out for them and finds treats in the yard. Of course, like all roosters he gets his fringe benefits, too....but the girls don't seem to mind and I have never...

    Poultry Conditioner

Hi, Folks, I have decided to treat my (10) birds to a 14 ounce can of tuna twice a week just a give them a little boost in protein, and of course because they LOVE tuna fish. I then decided if I poured the tuna out over some of this Manna Pro "Poultry Conditioner" they would be more likely to...

8 mo old hens never started laying

Those chickens don't look old enough to lay to me. I have barred rocks and production reds and in both breeds, when their combs got tall enough to actually fall to one side is EXACTLY when they started laying. DD

Why did they do that on Survivor!

This is symptomatic of America in general. Never mind that a huge percentage of people can't even find America on a world map any more......I suggest you read The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America - A Chronological Paper Trail if you really want to understand why we are in the shape we are in...
