I had hoped it was just the floof 😅 but even after I cut it she still hadn’t gotten much better. Last night she was very confident around them and was eating and drinking so I let her sleep with them. This morning she’s doing well so fingers crossed her confinement has helped 😂
Anyone else have a socially awkward chicken? We got this little lady recently and she didn’t know how to interact with other chickens, wouldn’t even eat snacks like spinach and once spent 6 hours facing a wall. After a week of her sitting in a corner all day, I ended up placing her into a...
Here’s my half silkie girl. (Other half is Araucana) she loves to prove she is a silkie by going broody at least once every 6 weeks and is currently sitting in a cat tunnel to nest. She’s super fluffy and friendly. Also was a single child and an oops baby 😳 She makes these funny brrr sounds like...
So this little (hopefully a lady) is just about 14 weeks now. She’s half silkie + araucana/polish cross. She’s just started clucking today and I can’t believe how quickly she’s grown. She was an accidental baby and she was a solo chick with a silkie for a mother. They are still very close but...
I did and I would do it a million times over. My chickens I consider the same as a dog or cat. I’ve raised some since birth. People also raise them for livestock which I respect but not everyone does. I would do anything to help them.
I generally will treat and do what I can to help them. I’ve got a small backyard flock and they are like children to me. They get the same treatment as any of my dogs and cats do. The only time I’d ever consider culling is if their pain and suffering was untreatable and their quality of life was...
Lol at least you didn’t forget an egg under a broody accidently and incubated a chicken for a week so you had to let it hatch because you couldn’t just break the egg. Couldn’t of been me 😂
Side note though, little Nugget (8 days today) is doing great and Lulu has been a wonderful first time...
I’m still dying it’s so cute :bow
I added a picture of it’s dad below too since I got him when he was a day old. They look very similar but nugget here has black skin like a silkie. Only 4 toes though
So many little peeps :bow
It’s feathers are looking very dark so far. My guesses when it was in the egg that it would have black or grey feathers since it looked super dark. The little one is still working it’s way out but hearing it’s mother cluck back is so cute I’m dying
Day 18 for me with my accidental silkie/polish/aracuna egg under a broody and starting to see movement in the air cell :yaI didn't even think it would make it past a week due to it being winter here but it's been growing nicely and surprising me everyday. Hopefully will see the weird little...
I’m so sorry 😞 I had a similar thing happen last year. Lost all including 4 young pullets who never got the chance to lay. Had raised them from a day old. We unfortunately didn’t have a rooster so babies were not a possibility for us. But we have now gotten more and raised some of them from a...
It's not necessarily twin embryos. Likely just the butt end of the chicken. They are curled around in the egg. Mine looked like that a few days back too. As long as it is moving in sync with the first blob it's probably a normal embryo.
I accidentally created a chick because I forgot to remove a fertilised egg from my broody hen oops but little nugget here is growing well. Looking more like a dinosaur every day. I’m not ready to be a chicken grandma after raising chickens from 1 day old lol. Here’s a video of day 10? Not 100%...
