I have a small flock of chickens (5 hens and 1 rooster) that are free to a good home. They are a mix of breeds and ages (from 1 year to 3 years old) and all of the hens lay regularly still. They are easy to maintain and good for 3-4 eggs a day all year-round with proper lighting in the winter...
My Americauna has been lethargic for a couple days and now she is has very dark green diarrhea. She started molting a couple weeks ago so I figured that she was just feeling down because of that at first. Now, thanks to the diarrhea, I'm getting concerned.
Any thoughts as to what it could be?
No advice to give you...both my Scotties protect our chickens and one of our Wyandottes is convinced she's a Scottie as she always follows around our older dog and tries to follow him into the house.
They'll kill any rabbits/squirrels they see (if they could catch them) but they completely...
Speaking from experience, its not even worth trying to rehab a bad natured rooster. Its best to just put him in a pot and move on to a new one. A vicious rooster will always be vicious.
Late yesterday evening, I did a headcount and one of my 8 month old Buff Leghorns was MIA. All 7 of my hens are free range on my 4 acres (surrounded by other large yards and a few hundred acres of woods behind our house) so I started a very methodical search of all their favorite hiding spots...
Barred Rocks are great birds if they are good with the heat (which a couple have said they can be here). Maybe its an acclimation thing but mine freak out any time it gets over 90...yet they're completely happy in 0 degree weather.
I'm still getting 1-2 eggs a day (from 3 laying birds and 1 molter) any time its a sunny day. On cloudy days, I dont get any as its not light enough for them.
Down to under a dozen eggs now.
She might not lay for a couple weeks or she might start laying in 3-4 days.
When my hen was pretty brutally attacked by my roo, she didnt lay for around 12 days.
