Hi Everyone!
I live in western Kentucky with my 19 chickens, 1 pheasant, 1 dog, 1 1/2 horses (a TW and a mini) and 9 cats. I spend most of my time caring for my furry and feathered brood and love it. Two of my roosters and miniature horse do Pet Therapy at the schools and nursing home in our...
PEPPER, a black bantam cochin rooster. This picture was taken 2 years ago. He passed away this March 2011 at the age of 9 years old. I still get teary when I think of him. If a rooster can be a best friend, this was the one. He was my first rooster ever and, although there have been...
Name: Dolly
Age: born 3-2011
Breed: Bantam Cochin
Sex: Pullet
Picture is of her still in the house. She is gradually making her way outdoors to the outside coop/barn area, I just can't 'cut the chord" yet! She is 'helping' to dust the wood floor in the hallway with her feet in this...
ZIGGY is a Barred Rock Rooster. He will be 3 years old in the Fall 2011. Ziggy was born with a crooked beak and only 1 eye. Despite his special needs, or maybe because of them, he is a special roo. He has done Pet Therapy at the public schools in the special education classrooms and has also...
This is Fiona, a SLW. She will be a year old May 2011. She was a rescued from the local farmstore and had spraddle leg. Fiona fully recovered and integrated very well into a small flock of 4 bantams. She towers over them, but is like the baby of the bunch still. She loves raisins, hanging...
I use the eprinex also twice a year (spring and late fall), and may alternate valbazen in. I usually put sevin dust along edges of coop inside and use pine shavings which get scooped daily and usually need to add some by week's end. Sometimes I spray permethrin on roosts and near walls where...
Do you find that treating with Corid or sulfadimethoxine is more effective to use in treatment of coccidia? Last time I had it, I used the sulfa- (not Sulmet) per Peter Brown's advice and it got rid of it? But, have read that corid is safer to use and doesn't affect the kidneys as much, but...
Would you all suggest Corid or sulfadimethoxine as being more beneficial/effective in treatment? Have read that sulfadimethoxine (Not Sulmet) is effective but can be hard on kidneys and Corid more safe, but may not treat as well. Any thoughts?
Well, I have a coccidia outbreak with my outdoor chickens. Maybe my experience will help someone else know the signs before it is too late. Noticed blood in someone's poo yesterday which alerted me. BUT, I have had one hen that has been lethargic, droopy, feathers ruffled looking and Not...
Corid 9.6% solution, 1t. per gallon of water I believe is the dosage for 5 days. If you have a different strength or the powder, there are other posts on here for that dosage. Am dealing with coccidia outbreak right now in my outdoor flock with all the mud and yuck going on.
I had one that lost his top beak pretty close to that amount. I trimmed the bottom one a little bit to even up (bit Be Careful and do not trim to the quick-you can see the shading if you trim with pet nail clippers in good light, then file gently with emory on edges to point). I put some...
Hi All,
Different sort of situation here......I have a 4 year old female Golden Pheasant who has always been inside the house due to her physcial handicaps. She is very tame and a favored pet (PS She (Peepers) won the Special Needs/Handicapped Poultry Contest a couple years ago.) Anyway, she...
Just curious as to where you are flying from and what the temps will be in cargo? Gets pretty cold down there. Woven wire isn't too bad to work with, but you will need help to stretch it. I just put some up around my pond, with help of course, and can send some pictures to you if you would...
This is what showed up on my property about a week ago. They are pure white, large and do make a honking noise. I looked out one morning and they were on my pond. At first glance I thought migrating snow geese, but have gotten a closer look and now think domesticated geese. Possibly were...
I don't know what is in vicks, but would think that might be more of a deterrent. You can also buy No-Pick from a poultry supply, but it didn't do much for mine. One of mine likes the taste of bag balm.
I agree with everyone, the cannibal has to go or be kept separate in a pen with a large roo possibly. But, this is a bad trait. I feel lucky I have never had this happen! I keep very low numbers per coop however. My Red Sex Links are very sweet by the way. My two aggressors are two BR's...
