    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Please see post #821 - that was only in response to a post regarding crooked toes on received juveniles..........by then I had quite a flock already. I've had SFH since the very beginning of SFH in America. I don't like doing business on a public forum, I don't consider it polite to others...

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

    The Sussex thread!

I haven't seen a post from Martie on this thread..........so I am going to "steal her thunder" a bit here and post a little something to honor her and her darlings: The cover of the latest Backyard Poultry magazine is a group of Buff Sussex juveniles owned by Martie Starr!!! These are kids...

    Old and Rare Breeds

Do you happen to know who this guy in Colorado with the Breda might be? I'd be interested in getting with him since I have found some very interesting color genetics in my Breda flock............

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

I suppose I can see an attraction in that as well................that said, through selective breeding (applying same selections used in improving Marans egg color), nearly every mature Isbar hen I have lays what I would call a dark green olive egg at least once or twice a week, with lighter...

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Sorry, I probably should have taken the time to be a bit more descriptive. I too have Marans that hatch in 21 days. But, I also have older established Marans lines that lay large almost round eggs that take 22 - 24 days to hatch. Those chicks come out big - almost twice the size of other lines...

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

This pic is of one of my favorite splash hens - more of a harlequin pattern than a splash - and she produces a lot of kids that look just like her. She wanted to make sure when I was collecting that I understood this was _her_ egg. :)

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Isbars are like Marans....................the green pigment is on the OUTSIDE of the egg, applied by the hen AFTER the egg has formed and is on its way out. The amount of time the egg is in the hen determines the amount of pigment applied. My Isbar eggs hatch between 22-25 days, just like...

Is there a particular goal or purpose in mind from crossing these two breeds?

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

This was too cute not to share................we use LGD's extensively on the ranch to protect all critters. Birds learn from a very young age that the dogs are nothing to be afraid of. In this photo, I was actually in the pen to photograph some young cockerels for a customer. Had one in...

    Breda Fowl thread

I might also suggest that the British standard for this breed be considered as a basis for possible APA standards. There are several APA judges that do not like standards that come from most European countries, but have no problem with using a British standard as a base. They are nearly one...

    Colorado

Sorry, meant to get on here yesterday but the neighbor's house burnt down so it was a stressful day in these parts.............. :( A group order would mean everyone would need to order at the same time. :) I've got reservations out to May on several breeds/varieties that you all seem to be...
