They are getting so big! We *think* the brown one is a female khaki campbell. The yellow one maybe an ancona. Really we still aren't sure so we're still calling them "Brown Duck" and "Yellow Duck"
Picked up two new babies from the local farm store yesterday. It's been a while since I'd had ducklings and forgot what a little joy they are! I'll have to add some pics when I get home. We *think* they are khaki campbell and ancona. The girl in the store thought "hatchery choice" was a breed...
I noticed a lot of people on here all use incubators and very carefully montior the hatching process. My sweet girl is sitting on at least 24 eggs. Should be hatching in the next week or so (not sure when she stopped). We had just planned on letting her do the work and hatch however many came...
Can unusually warm weather cause molting this time of year? It's been in the 50's several days recently. Imola hasn't been laying eggs for about a week. She was a once a day layer. There's feathers all over her pen and it seems as though she's not as water resistant as normal. Can the weather...
So we lost our first duck Not sure what it was so I'm asking for help from you guys. I had two ducks (a pekin and a mix around 9lbs) living in my fenced backyard. I live in a subdivision in town. The fence is 4ft chain link all the way around. I have chickens in an enclosure and the ducks just...
My drake has gotten really aggressive towards the dogs. He won't let my Maltese off the porch to pee and he chases all three pitbulls across the yard. The dogs ignore the ducks and could really care less until this little guy starts biting and flapping his wings chasing them all around. They...
Can anyone identify this breed? I only have EE and Light Brahms, which he definately isn't! I was thinking RR or Old English maybe? He's definately a bantam. Help please
So, I think Phoebe might not be a Phoebe. She's a Greg, lol. She/He doesn't have the "quack" and more of a hissy-raspy noise. I also notice the tail feathers are getting a little upwards curl. So how long before he/she and Imola (definitely a girl, that quack is LOUD) start trying to uh, make...
I've got a 6 week old Pekin and Ancona, both adorable little girls. Everything I've read about Anconas talks about how tame and friendly they are but mine is a total spaz. Anyone else have a spazzy Ancona?
Imola, the Pekin is friendly as can be. Stays calm and lets me hold her. But not...
I'm wanting to move them outside to a pen. It's got a hole for the brooder lamp and can be easily picked up to clean/move. Any opinions?
O, it's for two ducklings two weeks old. One peking and one Ancona (the hatchery threw her in for free!)...

My babies are getting stinky and I'm wanting to move them outside. The daytime temp is fine for them but I'm worried that at night it's too cold. This box has a place for the heat...
So I got my ducky babies, YEA! But I'm unsure how warm to keep them. Does anyone have a recomended temp for two week old babies? They don't seem uncomfortable at all at room temp. I just wanted to be safe and make sure they are well spoiled!
I have a shaded area under my deck that would be easy to predator proof and run electric to in the winter. Do you think my pekin would be happy with her pond and house under there or do you think she'd like more sunshine? Opinions please and thank you. She doesn't get here until the 12th of...
I went out of town on Saturday and returned Monday afternoon. Temps were between 40 and 75. Do you think the eggs are ok to eat still?
Thanks for your time.
After reading all the posts on ducks, I've decided to add a couple to my backyard flock of chickens. I'm going to get two at the same time I get my batch of chicks so they can all grow together. I can't decide on Pekin or Welsh harlequin. Maybe one of each? They will live between the coop/run...
What type of bedding/coop material is the fastest to compost? Right now I'm using straw but have heard of shredded paper, aspen chips, sawdust and sand.
Wondering which one breaks down the fastest? I'm eager to get some of that stuff on my garden!
I've been considering clipping my hens wings so they can free range in the yard without jumping the 4' fence and roosting the the neighbors trees
Does anyone have a good link or advice on how to? Tips or tricks you've picked up along the way? Thanks.
