Just so I know, did I do something wrong? The hen hadn't helped the other one out of the shell (it was half in half out and dead), and she hauled butt and wouldn't go back in the box. Should I of left the chick in there anyways? Would she of come back? They need a heat lamp don't they to stay...

    Baby chick just hatched HELP!!!!!!!

One of my hens has been setting 5 eggs, that I got from my brother, three were broken mid set, and we were down to 2. I checked today and one tried to hatch but only made it half out of the shell and was dead and the other was trying to get out, so I helped it. I have ‘him’ in a box under a...

Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

Yep live and Learn, I guess. ChicKat, I'm sure y'all get as hot as we do, but here I don't leave much in the bags, in the hot summers we have. Plus we have wild hogs pretty bad and if they manage to get in the barn they can tear a bag up pretty quickly.

Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

Well they aren't making it right, I may just have to eat the cost of the bags. 1 I don't have the physical bags anymore, becuase I put all my feed into tubs/bins when I get it, and it's in the tub/bin. And they are saying I have to take it back to the store to get a refund. I know the store...

Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

thanks, I contacted purina last night, we'll see if they get back to me. This store is the only one for about 60 miles, lol we are rural, and they just took it over, I LOVED the last owners, these I'm not crazy about at all. We are BIG business people with them honestly. I get my little horse...

Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

This feed store won't take it back. They are snobby that way, I asked them about at least a bit of a refund on one of my middle sized chicks that is obviously a rooster and NOT pullet like they advertised them to be and charged me for, and they jsut simply said that the hatcheries on'y...

Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

Anyone else have that problem with the crumbles? The last two bags I got were more powder than crumbles and my chickens won't even try to eat the powder. I tried the pellets about 3 bags ago, and they ate them great for the first couple of weeks, then decided they didn't like them, so I...

Hatching with a broody hen question????

Just to grins and giggles, I traded some fertilized (I hope) eggs from my brother to give to my broody Buff Orpington hen. I gave her 5. She chose the popular nesting box, and I don't know if she is coming out to eat and or drink or if the others are getting on top of her and laying but I end...

Which chicken breeds are particularly noisy? Quiet?

Quote: May I ask what breed those are in that picture?? The lighter one looks an awful lot like one of my hens that I'm thinking is a cherry egger.
