July 1, 2011 So it is my second day being a chicken owner! They survived the night with their rabbit hutch. I woke up extra early to let them out and they were still sleeping!! Haha, today I hand fed them, which I was very afraid to do because I don't want to be bitten but it was fun. I guess I...

    Can egg shell color change?

My EE had just started laying last week. First there were 2 small green tinted shell colored eggs but today and yesterday the eggs have changed to slightly larger and a cream colored light brown. Is this the same chicken laying? I have only 1 EE, 1 mixed bantam, 1 mixed chicken, a silkie and a...

    Dark Chicken Stories

Over here, they tie the chickens foot to a tree or pole and chop the head off and the chicken will run and run and run! Without its head, all the blood would be shooting out like crazy. And eventually the chicken will give up and die. I have only seen it once and it turned me vegetarian. Haha:lol:

    Tsunami alarm

So once a month, the tsunami alarm goes off as a practice. Today was the first time my babies heard it. Along with the dogs, they freaked out and ran under my chair. Even the chicks that hate me came and squeezed against my feet. The alarm is loud and you will hear every dog in the neighborhood...

Easy but strong coops for a non-carp exp family??

Quote: You could build a simple 3 sided lean to. You wouldn't have to enclose it. But if you really want walls, just put up 3 walls, and a roof and you're done! That way the birds have some place to get under for rain storms. You can even put up a tarp or extend your roof further out over...

Easy but strong coops for a non-carp exp family??

Haha yeahh maui! I live in the mountain though so it rains quite often and its about 70 degrees at night and 80 in the day in the summer. So winter will be in late 60 to 70s in the day. The open coop idea sounds good! I never thought of it like that I wanted a closed coop because it storms...

Easy but strong coops for a non-carp exp family??

My Mama wants to build a coop but our family has no building experience whats so ever. We want it to be big enough for about 10 chickens. A flat roof, because my parents think a A-shaped roof would be too advanced. Time is not an issue, we already plan on taking a few months to make it. We...
