I saw several different sets of Muscovy eggs on eBay. All looked like they had the white head gene.

Maybe that is why my flock is so sweet.,.. They have been together a long time, and only one drake.

mine don't pick at each other. they are much sweeter to one another than my chickens. I easily put different aged ducklings together a few times this summer, and they were all sweet to one another. The older ducklings would preen the younger ones. When I added a new young female to my...

I have never fed such high protein either. I would breed to the silver drake, just to get more color in the ducklings, but then I like variety. Mine do not get a pond in the winter time...too much of a pain with cold weather etc. I have my ducks in my orchard, and the apples trees and...

That feed might be a bit high in protein..... I would pick the healthiest and largest male.

@andreacroyle I have no idea what her color is called. :hu Here is a more recent picture of Toffee. She is on the left side, the only adult in this shot.

@andreacroyle see what happens when you ask a question? age progression for a different duck, Toffee. about four months in this picture. about 10 months old in this picture. She is the one on the bottom, in the center.

Age study of Creamy. @andreacroyle Notice how she went through a stage of looking almost all white, with just a small silver cap. Now, she has lots more color. Also, her eyes changed color from dark, to a light blue. I do not have a duckling photo of her, but I am sure she looked like one of...

Wonder why they aren't going broody? Mine filled up one nest, one duck went broody, they filled up another nest, a second duck went broody. Hummmmm I need to see if the last possibly laying duck is laying somewhere. But, she hurt her foot somehow... So maybe she isn't laying. :hu

@TherryChicken Such pretty ones! I am not sure which I like the best, they all have great points.

They can't fly with both wings trimmed. I like them looking balanced and symmetrical. But, I don't think that it really matters with Muscovy, if you trim one of two wings. With my parrots, if I trimmed only one wing, they did NOT just flutter gently in a spiral to the ground, they flew up...

I don't know. I guess because I had parrots before I had Muscovy, I trimmed both wings. :hu

Well, the one that I kept from that hatch, hatched the last few days of October, she is just now getting a little bit of red caruncles around the base of her bill. The female that hatched mid summer (don't know exact hatch date) has a bit of caruncles by her eyes and a tiny bit connecting...

    Attention Muscovy lovers

Oh, I thought that I had answered you. All of them are Muscovy. The duck that brooded them is the one with her back towards us, white and chocolate. All the rest are almost four month old Muscovy. The other possible mothers were a blue and a lavender and the drake is a light silver. All of my...

If I had to guess, I would pick the ones with the least amount of red/caruncles. My males did get their caruncles a bit sooner than the females.

All of the ducks in that picture are 100% Muscovy. The others are the the ducklings that she brooded. So, they were only barely starting to get their caruncles. My ducks are all different colors, those ducklings were by her (chocolate), a blue, and a toffee colored (a predator got her :(...
