Your input is invaluable. Because I am who I am, and because I have my own "strange and absurd and illogical" opinions (and because people continue to publicly say that) I will no longer be posting on the forums, not just this thread but everywhere else apart from the Swap Threads (You have to...
Thank you very much!! I'll look into that one as well, I appreciate it. I was hoping for a feed with some animal protein in it but I think I may just have to supplement for that part.
Thank you.
[Edited to add] It looks like it's not available where I live, but I could either a) get it shipped maybe...or b)find something very similar, so I'll look around. The stuff our TSC sells is that plant only crap and I don't want that. Sigh. I'll look around for something like this...
Wowzers...very nice! :D I like Sussexes very much (in all the varieties, I think they are lovely). Congratulations on your new additions, and I hope they arrive safe, sound, and healthy for ya! Please post pictures, I would love to see them.
What exactly is coming, Karen? I know Juniors and Junettes but what are you getting? :) Very exciting, I hope you post pictures of these for us to seeee.
That's the second time I've read that from you, and I was curious the first time and now you posted it again so I'm going to ask before my brain explodes and makes the rest of my head a sticky mess. :)
...what exactly do you feed your chicks that aren't incubated, but hatched via a broody? And...
Thank you for your input, Kathy. :) Since you're in MO, would you recommend something I could feed them in leu of the MFA? Something that has a starter and layer type would be great.
Good point with regard to the "highly involved". He told me he was highly involved, but it didn't sound vain, just conversation.
20% flock pellets you say? 20% what? o.o I'm assuming protein? Would you mind sharing the brand name and formula? :D
I can see how having 500 birds would give...
This is something I heard today from someone I spoke with who is highly involved with the APA. We were talking about genetics and quality and breeding and such and he popped out with this sentence that I didn't expect.
"It's not just about the genes. Crap in, crap out. Lots of folk stuff...
Great information!! I agree with the "get one or two of whatever". Right now I have 6 chickens and they are a handful, but I love that handful. I've had to deal with deformities and culls, but I haven't had any parasite issues or predator issues (yet) because of where we live but I'm sure I...
a) Do any of you have an "egglayers only" pen for your pullet culls, or a "meatbirds" pen for your male culls or do you just cull them (either by selling, killing, etc)? I don't like the thought of eating or selling to eat - fertilized eggs from a heritage breed. =/ I figured if I keep the...
I fully agree with this, and I'm the one who is allowed 6-10 hens and no roosters. That being said, I've made it very clear several times that my plan to preserve certain breeds, and breed for quality, won't begin for another 2 years. Granted, I'm not fond of waiting 2 years, but it's to make...
I have no idea who Junior and his Junettes are. I went back some pages here but I couldn't find anything...whatever they are I'm happy for you that they're on their way.
5 hours of sleep I got ...that's a record methinks. :]
Is this for any breed or a certain breed? I mean, I only ask because I thought mahogany was a desired color in certain breeds? I know there is a mahogany orloff...and I thought a Buckeye's coloring was called mahogany too?
[Edited to add] Completely off topic from the purple feather, but I...
Was it the black breasted red old english game fowl that you were referring to though? If there's a heritage chicken with similar coloring as those, but isn't the game fowl, I'd be very interested. :) It's a shame these games have to be dubbed. I mean I know why (it's not a discussion allowed...
I'm completely lost methinks, I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying I'm always going to favor the Russians o.o I think the suggestions you gave were great, and I googled them when I read about them, but could only find the one game bird I was considering before. I *definitely* like the...
This was back a couple of months ago, and I just looked again this evening and most of what they have now is out of season (there were still alot available when I was checking them out). The breed I wanted to get were the Salmon Faverolles, and I still really like that breed a *ton*.
Thank you...
