Thank you!! I apologize if it seems like I'm asking simple/stupid questions. I need to sit down and catch up on my reading. I have things bookmarked and saved all over the place.

So I decided to stop hoarding my lavs that I don't need for breeding and sold this girl yesterday. I keep looking at this pic and thinking she's going to be really nice and wishing I had kept her. 3 months old what do you guys think? What can you tell about breed conformation etc at this age...

Thanks so much!! I knew I had seen your crosses before I just couldn't find them. Quick question. Looks like my black AM rooster is starting to mate now. If he breeds the barred rocks can I still sex the chicks? Or is it only lav color that allows sex linked to show up? Can you explain how the...

Morning! I have my lav program starting but in the mean time I've hatched some Lav AM/barred rock eggs. These should come out sex linked correct? What is the accuracy on this? I'm planning to sell these and would like to garantee sex. Does anyone have pictures of the resulting chicks and...

If blacks are gold based, how did you add silver to your lavs originally? As I understand it, you could cross with other lines of lavs to breed away from gold but then you would need to do this every time you decided to cross with black again? Is that correct?

Thanks so much guys! I was so disapointed to see the gold, but I was planning to breed him to my black hen anyway as my only lav hen is soo tiny and she has very light blue eggs. The black hen's eggs are so dark and beautiful. I have hatched some chicks from my lav pair and for the most part...

I saw someone reference this at some point but I can't find it now: Where is the gold color coming from in the lavs? My rooster was great feather quality, no fretting, then all the sudden his saddle and hackle feathers turned gold-ish. Can I breed away from this or should he be culled? My...

I just had my first hatch ever and got four new lav chicks and a black split. (We only set 7 eggs and got five not too bad). Please excuse the dirty paper towels. I had two more chicks hatch than expected so they'll be getting a bigger brooder soon and didn't want to wake them up to...

I caught my boy posing yesterday and snapped a few pics. I posted him a month or two ago and think he was too young to evaluate very well. He's about 10 months now. He's my head rooster and has just recently become very protective of his ladies (one black and one lav AM). In fact I caught him...

I have a breeding/hatching question: I have lavs, blacks and blues from P. Smith. One black hen and one lav. The rest were Roos. One of the hens started laying about 6 weeks ago. They were great looking from day one but very small. I assumed they were from the lav b/c she is very petite and I...

I don't think that bantams are in every line... so you might check to see which line you have. :)

They are just short of 7 months old, hatched at the end of March 2014. So definitely on the young side. The roo is crowing and I hope for eggs in the next few weeks, probably months. :( I have always thought the other colors of Ameraucanas were considered dual purpose as well. Which is one of...

Good morning!!! My lav hen will be laying eggs in the next 3-6 weeks. (Crosses fingers) and I am brand new to chickens espcially amerucanas. Could you guys look over my pair and let me know what you think about breeding them. The hen is very petitte but both have beautiful plumage but are...

I'll try tomorrow. She better be a pullet otherwise it looks like one pullet out of ten Ameraucana chicks. I just can't seem to get hens. I've had nine Roos out of 10 chicks (3 different batches of various breeds). :( I just started with chickens this January and still have no for sure...

That's as good as I could get for the second one. But that one is almost completely flat. Looks just like this black pullets comb:

Hi all! My first lavenders are starting to develop or not develop combs. So could you take a look and help me guess on sex? I only have two. They are from P. Smith and are 8 weeks old now. My camera makes the combs look red but they are only slightly fleshy pink in the sun light. I originally...

Thanks!!! My husband built me a crazy big coop for my Ameraucanas. We over did the run (in size) but of course they love it. I need to get some better pics especially now that it's finished but I've been so happy with it.

I just got some lavs from P. Smith. I'm am in love with the coloring. Looks like I have two pullets so I'll breed back to black for some Roos and hopefully get my own line going. I've read through the thread and can't wait to use the knowledge I've gotten from you all. Thanks for sharing and...
