Thank you, BDG - I had a lot of fun taking pictures of littles! More fun than they had, certainly!
Moved them all in the brooder after the photoshoot! Need to clean the hatcher out after it cools off a bit this evening. I can do that while I watch my grownies range in the yard.
Did anyone want pictures?
The first baby, Sparkles.
And - because I know one isn't enough -
...and, because two might not be enough, either -

The second-born buff orpington, Darling:
Dottie, the last baby, the one I helped out...
Been a long, worrisome day, but that last baby is starting to come around a bit. She's begun holding herself upright a bit, rather than just laying on her side and flopping. Started holding her head up for longer periods of time.
Still hoping for her.
What little beauties!
My pipped 'dotte mutt just ... well, I was bad. And she'd been pipped for over a day and was just gasping at the hole. So I took her out this morning and used a teeny tiny screwdriver to open up the hole a little, and dabbed at her with a warm wet qtip. The membrane at...
This is my first hatch, so I have no basis for comparison.
It seems that, after they throw off the "lid" that they zipped out, it's a bit of an effort for them to lift themselves up out of the cup that's left. I can see where it might be easier for them if the egg was laying on it's side so...
Ugh. I hope I did the right thing.
It had stretched out to the point that there was a clear area in the vein(?) for about an inch, but she kept trying to move away and the very end of it had dried to the paper towel. Couldn't get to the bit dried on without opening the hatcher, but ...
I bought three hatchery quality silver-laced wyandottes at point of lay, and they had been with a couple of roosters - a white leghorn and another ... white ... rooster, that I saw. The black chick is the second egg laid, four days after the hens got back here. I have another from the same hen...
Somebody say pictures?
Just had two heritage buff orpingtons hatch out at almost the same time.
Again, the webcam is still going - http://tinyurl.com/42kfjmh
My little Sparkles was on top of one of them as she was trying to lurch out of the shell. They're so much bigger than she is - maybe...
I have ... Sparkles all hatched out, one zipping right now, and two more pipped. And lotsa videos uploading to youtube, as if anyone in the world will be fascinated by 45 minutes of zipping and hatching! (aside from me, anyway!)
Wait? Booties? I'm supposed to have booties? Please - booties?
Sparkles just got named by her Aunt Jenny via webcam as she made the final lurch out of the egg, and she's now snuggling with Teddy, waiting for more sisters to arrive.
Anybody ever seen that movie about the pug and the cat, narrated by Dudley Moore?
And Otis's mate is having the puppies, and he runs out of the cave into the snow and does circles and screams "It's a boy! It's a boy!" and then he goes back in, and the female tells him he left too soon, and he...

I had to change the angle of the webcam and look in the side window so I could watch her. Because it's a girl, right? right? And she'll be fine?
On the...
