I start with a big washtub and move up to a 110 gallon stock tank. After that, hopefully they are big enough and tis warm enough to go in an outside grow out coop.
I have the opposite groupings- lav boys over white girls. The offspring were sex-linked- splash boys and blue and grey girls that carry lav. There is some good info on the seb lovers forum in the color genetics section. So much to learn, I wish I could retain more of it!

You can use a little sandpaper to scrape off excessive mud too. I don't wash mine, but it does make it harder to see inside in the beginning if they are still kind of dirty.
Barb- my yard would be the same way, but we're putting straw down constantly. Can't believe how much we're going through!
I don't have any grass now either, and goslings due in a couple weeks. Going to start some wheat fodder trays in the house so it will be ready for them.
Gorgeous!
I am setting my 3rd (set) dozen eggs tonight. I was really surprised that the first group only had one dud, despite the super frigid weather and the time it takes me to get to the eggs late in the day. Yay!
Sorry, Chickery-Do.
I know the geese here are extra thankful today- finally warmed up enough to bring out the hose and fill the pools- several times!
Have a great day, everybody!
That oddball is a blue Orpington squeezing her fluffy butt in there. I had just dumped a bunch of grain in a hog pan. Its funny though- sometimes I get this view from the middle when I am trying to walk to the feed bins. Such a silly feeling to have geese stepping on your feet.
Gorgeous, Barb! I love that look too.
I can say " What's up there???" And look up, and the geese will copy me. Most of the time, anyway.
We're going to try to get them to model in a furniture photo shoot today. This will be interesting.
Wow- congrats on the farm! And the new baby :) I hope you get more eggs this time around. I was really disappointed last year too. Been so used to the Toulouse laying for 7 months straight- I though the Sebs were playing tricks on me when they quit.
Most of my over-sized sebs are solid colored ones. That is why I am keeping some whites with nice type in the flock for now.
As for the eggs- they may/may not be fertile- it is normal to get a few eggs off season. I would recommend not hatching now unless you live in a really warm climate...
Good luck you guys!
With the way the weather has been changing to flooding 9 months a year here, I know I am bound to see bumblefoot again. Would love to have an alternative to surgery.
Daze- I had packed the hole with gauze and put a thick gauze pad on the bottom and wrapped it like crazy to get it to stay flat. It took a ton of wrap- that is why I suggest the multi pack from TSC.
If there is a way to avoid the whole surgery thing I would try it next time. But following...
We treated 2 geese we bought- they had severe bumble foot. We did the soaking, laid them on a towel on the table (2 person job), used a sterilized box cutter to cut out the plug and squeeze out all the gunk. You have to get that gunk out. It can go very deep. Its waxy and gross, but you can get...
