Ended up with 3 chicks out of 11 eggs, sadly one of the chicks hatched late yesterday afternoon has spraddle leg. Its leg was caught in the egg during hatch and it struggled for a long time to get it free, looking back I probably should have helped it along but was afraid to open the incubator...

My first baby hatched about 10 minutes ago (yay) but it is flopping around inside the incubator, can't seem to get its legs under it and its tummy looks disproportionate to the rest of the chick. Like it swallowed a marble. Is this normal? It is peeping so at least its lungs work fine.

No pips, peeps, wiggles or chicks in my bator, anyone else set 3/9 with still no activity? I'm excited for everyone who has results but also getting very concerned about my hatch. The wait is horrid, I had no idea. I've worn out batteries in one flashlight already just looking for pips.

I am so happy for everyone who is seeing signs and a little jealous too. My eggs are also bantam but no pips, no peeps and no wiggles. Maybe tonight This is one of the rare times I am glad I am at work else I would be nose to the bator glass and full of worry for the next couple days.

I'll go into lockdown as soon as I get home from work tonight. Hoping for a couple of the cutest babies in the world out of the 11 eggs even with all the problems I've had, with a first hatch there is a lot of learning.

We've had two power outages since setting eggs and some wild fluctuations in humidity early on, so I don't have a lot of hope for these little guys. Will lock down tomorrow same as you all and see what happens Friday.

I'm sorry to hear you have only one, I am incubating eggs from MPC also and I think they told me to expect around 50%. What breed are you hatching?

Day 6 now, did anyone give in to the temptation to candle?

Candling seems more art than science, yes? I have one of Brinsea's ovascopes where you place the egg into a covered viewing slot with a fairly bright light and rotate the egg till you see something. I used it on eggs from under broodys before and really couldn't tell if I was looking at a blood...

You candled? What did you see? I'm afraid to candle mine so I would like to hear what yours look like right now

My story: I have a Brinsea Octo 20 that I got for Christmas, ordered eggs from MPC in January and they finally arrived Friday. Into the bator they went and are so cute and tiny, they are all bantams and I didn't realise just how small bantam eggs really are - much smaller than what my hens lay...

30 eggs + 30+ chickens so you are doubling the size of your flock. I set 11 little bantam eggs in my brand new Brinsea incubator this morning at 3am and if they all hatch I will double my flock as well. Are you planning to candle, if so, when?
