    The Rhodebar thread!

That is a pullet, and too light to go into a RB breeding program. She's not showing the characteristics needed (dark coloring, clear dark striping, eyeliner, horn color on beak etc.).

    The Rhodebar thread!

I agree. I think it's just 2 photos of the same hens.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Thanks for the input. He's WAY better than what I started with. His first chicks at our farm are in the incubator...

    New cock. Opinions?

    The Rhodebar thread!

Clearly autosexed, that's a good start.

    The Rhodebar thread!

VERY, I agree. Can't wait to see the draft of the US proposed standard.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Since there is already a British Standard for Rhodebar, isn't that the logical place to start? I'm not a show person, but it just makes sense to me.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Doing what, trying to create Rhodebar with barred rocks or pea combs? Neither is going to work with a barred rock.

    The Rhodebar thread!

That's a wheaten chick, meaning your Rhodebars are not pure. The chick to the lower right I would not breed, but the darker/heavily striped chick above is a nice pullet. I would also not use the cockerel in upper left of this photo.

Not exactly sure. Found one in Santa Clarita CA but still need a ride to NW Oregon somehow.

    The Rhodebar thread!

I was hoping there might be a BYC transport thread or something?

    The Rhodebar thread!

Does anyone have a good idea to find a private ride for a cockerel from TN to OR? Will not use postal shipping.

    The Rhodebar thread!

I'm pretty sure that barring is sexlinked and that's why we can breed sexlinks with them...males double barred and females single.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Maybe it is just that easy...keep the super dark ones!

    The Rhodebar thread!

I know next to nothing about this cross. I'm guessing it is not as easy as "keep the darkest ones?" Watching to learn...

    The Rhodebar thread!

If they are pure Rhodebar without head spots, then yes...congratulations!

    The Rhodebar thread!

Nice chick! I got the horn color in my F1s. We'll see what the BC1 looks like as soon as those F1 pullets start laying.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Our Rhodebar lay very light brown (tannish) eggs.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Here are the F1 pullets I've kept so far. The one is my clear favorite and I love the way she is growing out. This is the original pair, glaring faults and all. This cockerel was put over Padgett X Underwood HRIR pullet.
