CK,
I agree in that the standard back then reflected a more Asil type fowl. The terms used for describing eye color, " yellow approaching pearl" still leads me to believe that Pearl color was the end goal.
Obviously, this standard was for the Large Fowl, as the bantam did come into play till...
Thanks Walts and CK for the feedback. I cant wait for the Ventura show to really get a first hand look at good Bantam Cornish. I, too, felt they were shallow up front compared to the sketches and better birds I had seen.
I didnt mean to sound like I was asking if I could "change my VW into a...
Walt,
The darks and the white are a little over a year old. I know what you mean about the White being shallow and I feel the same way. (I only picked her up because of her head shape and width. Honestly, I am not sure I want to raise Whites.)
My dark hens seemed to have gone that direction...
Thought I would post pictures of my Cornish for critique. I probably have a few years before I start to show my Cornish. Regardless, I am of the THICK SKIN type so be happy to hear from the group, in particular the JUDGES. Walt, your critique would be greatly appreciate, on this thread or via...
Cedar,
I appreciate what your saying but there is the DIRECT approach or the BEAT AROUND THE BUSH approach. Yes, there are many ways to get from point A to point B. I prefer the simple, direct, honest approach. Then we know what needs to be improved and move forward.
I like coming here...
Remembered I have a good eye color example of my Ko Shamo...duh! Pearl on bottom and not pearl on top. He is a young stag, out of a pearl eye hen and gold colored cock. She is a two year old hen, out of straight pearl eyed stock.
Hope this helps.
For good pictures of pearl eye birds you want to look at some of the Asil or Shamo from the homelands. Those eyes will be pearl, platinum or white like you have never seen. You will know when you see one.
Or, go to Google Images, type in "North Indian Asil" or "Reza Asil". A few good pearl eye...
Cedar~
Here is whats interesting, I have a pair of color combination BC like your paints and a third that looks to be Dark that were gifts. Well, low and be hold, if they dont have the greenest eyes out of all my Oriental chicks!
Could the eye color change as they get older? I guess, as many...
IMO~
the cock bird of Walt does have Pearl/Gold eye from what I can make out. Yes, its not a clear Pearl eye, or what i have heard called platinum eye in Oriental gamegfowl circles but the undertone is Pearl. This eye has a significant amount of viens running throughout the eye changing the...
Hello Al,
I one post to you get to the crux of my dilemma. By line of questioning you will see that I have not been involved in any shows, as of yet. We are planning, in the next few years, to become more involved.
Anyway, my dilemma or issue with the judging (Walt please do not take...
Yes sir! I feel the same way.
It just a bit frustrating, talking with some VERY well know and successful breeders, to hear that..." it's not worth it" or " it's impossible". In the back of my mind, knowing what i know of Orientals and Oriental grades, I am thinking..."seriously".
I don't...
CK,
Thats interesting to hear about the Wynadotte infusion. I guys its possible. I have spoken to many people about trying to put together a small flock of pearl eyed birds in attempt to strengthen the trait.
Many have told me that it wouldnt happen. So being the person that I am, I am still...
Walt , thats a Sharp headshot of what I am sure is a nice bird! I really like his eye color.
SPEAKING OF WHICH....being fairly new to Cornish compared to others....I would like to hear how and when you think the breed lost its grips on the PEARL EYE?
From research, its was the crossing non-...
Kfacres~
I agree the most current issue of ICBA is not beneficial as far as raising Cornish. It was printed more as a "meet and greet" for the members to know their directors.
Now, if you really want to learn about Cornish, in a nutshell, if possible, I suggest you order the new reprinted...
Not to burst your bubble of excitement! And keep in mind I am not a Cornish expert, there are others on here with greater tenure, but I dont believe they would be considered a Cornish......a NEAT project perhaps!
Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see what his project fowl look like.
