Well, I think chickens are a lot cheaper than horses. I have grandhorses (my neighbor owns them, but they graze in my pasture), and frankly, all of the vet and farrier bills have killed any romantic notion I had of keeping horses.
Ok, mostly killed.
Sort of killed?
Dangit, I still...
April, your babies are so cute!!!!! Congratulations!
I'm so sorry you lost a pipper. You're right- when you lose one, it kind of takes a lot of the joy out of it. I hate the "death" part of life. Sorry, I'm feeling melancholy today. I only want happy endings with our chicks, and I know...
That's very exciting! I hope you have a smooth and quick hatch.
When my chicks were going into lockdown, I dreamed I dropped the lid on the eggs, crushing every one. It must be a somewhat common phenomenon.
Honestly, I'm contemplating culling Hulksmash. I'm just not sure how well she...
I'm so excited to see more chicks hatch this weekend! It's so fun to see!!!
Joneus, really? The size of a golf ball? I may have to hatch some bantams, just to see that. I can't believe they're so tiny!!
My chickens will be two weeks old this weekend, and they're starting to enter that...
I love seeing all of the chick pictures!!! I especially love the baby poking its' head out from under mama, and the upside down EE. They area all so cute though! I'm glad everyone's hatch has gone so well.
My assisted chick is the one with the splayed leg. I'm wondering if that's why it needed...
They are sooo cute!!!!!! I love them!
I can't wait to see pictures of yours, Reyvaughn!
I am also excited to hear news of your chicks, ChickenPrincs!
So many new babies!
Omigosh what cute new chicks!! I love those silkie mixes.
Cayuse, I am so glad you got to watch it hatch! It looks like you've got a few more that are going to go soon. My Godzilla pipped at the wrong end of the egg, and she came out just fine, with no assistance. I also noticed that a...
Oh, those chicks are soooooo cute! I can't wait to watch them grow up!
Cayuse, it takes FOREVER. My first two eggs of the batch, it was nearly 24 hours.
Suzeqf, that would be sooooo frustrating!!! I would feel like Christmas was canceled!.
I know that quite a few of us here have half sister/brother chicks from Hot2Pot. Ambrosia just started a thread for us to keep in touch, like a big family reunion. If you have her chicks, go post on her...
Woot!!!! They were totally waiting for you to come home! I bet they'll start pipping and zipping just in time for you to watch.
Alienchick, your silkies are so adorable!!! I love your little swimming pool idea. What will you do when they start jumping? Mine are a week old, and I'm already...
Wow, I admire your restraint!!!!! Not candling even once to this point?! That is admirable.
You didn't hurt them at all by taking the turner out and then putting it back in after a few hours. People who hand turn their eggs go several hours in between turns, so they're fine.
You could try...
Hansen, if you still have 4 days to go, that's way too early to stop turning them. Have you candled them at all? I'm excited to see your babies, I love silver laced wyandottes.
At the beginning of day 19 (so you have all day 19, all day 20, and unknown part of day 21), you should stop turning...
Omigosh, Donavee, your duckies are so adorable!!!!!
Totally waiting for you!!!
I got some new eggs today- blue laced red wyandottes that I'm going to set tonight. I'm excited!
