Very nice site. I live in East TN. Started with Lavenders last year and I do really love them. But my health is not going to let me take care of all that I have with the addition of horses. So...it has been a difficult decision but I am going to have to sell my Lav. Orps. I have a very nice Lav...
I went out yesterday afternoon to collect eggs and noticed my Lav. pullet was breathing funny. I treated her with Oxine and she seemed better..was eating and drinking. She would do a little thing like she would gasp every couple minutes. This morning I went out and I had lost her. I have no idea...

I like those 2 girls in the front.
My girls should start laying any day. I am putting them under English black roos, and if I keep a lav boy he will go over an English black girl. I worry there may be fertility issues with all that fluff, but I have seen a few part-English Orps around...
Look what fell out of my Lavender Orp pullet. She must have sneezed a little too hard. At least she finally laid an egg. I know pullet eggs are small but this was just plain funny!
My other Lavender Orp laid today!!! They are 7 months old. I have laughed all afternoon at the egg from the last hen. It is no bigger than my bantams eggs. I'll bet she hiccuped and never realized she laid it!!
Now....have to work on being patient til they are old enough to start checking for...
FINALLY!!!!! I have my first egg from my Lavender Orps!!!
This is worse than being pregnant myself! It is a nice little pullet egg. My son kept saying..."are you sure it is from them....it is awful small for such a big chicken." Which is true. My Lavenders are monsters. I put them in a pen...

The last hen is blue.
Yes she is blue. One of the original hens was blue. Because of her confirmation and fluff it was suggested to me to breed her back. I can still get lavenders if I breed correctly in my flock.
Here are some pics of some of my breeding Lavenders. They are only 6 months old and still have a lot of filling out to do.
Isn't that a nice fluffy bottom!

Theses are beautiful Karen. I have 6th generation Harry Shaffer lavenders. I kept a Lav. pair and bought a black imported Eng. Orp. pair. I have been very pleased with the coloration on mine. Will try to get pics in a few days. My Lav. Roo just crowed for the first time today...

Since your here, The blacks I have from you are huge and round. Should I breed them back to the lavenders to work for the same size factor? The Lavs are nice of course but the blacks are really big. I'll try to get pics.

My Orps have been the opposite. My Lav roo is a...
I received my first lavender orp eggs 2 mo. ago from a reputable breeder who has been working on this project for quite a while and graciously sold my friend and I a dozen. He has been so helpful in my choosing which chickens are needed and teaching me about the genetics. I bought 2 Eng. Orp...
OK everyone! Time for me to exercise my bragging rights. I love these babies..
Do excuse my picture taking skills...I am at home with my manual Pentax but when it comes to digital...I suck!
Here we go! I ended up with 5 Black splits and 5 Lavenders. Still have 3 that are in the bator but...

I was so happy to find this link! I am still learning about chicken genetics...I raise TN Walking Horses and it seems their genetics are so simple compared to fowl. I will have Lav. Orp eggs hatching Tuesday. Hinkjc... I have been reading about breeding back to black to make the...
I am locking down my first hatching of Lavender Orps in the morning. I think the breeder told me these are 6 generation...I will have to check my email to make sure..but am excited..this has got to be a good hatch...the eggs where costly!! Will post pics when things get going...going to say a...
