Oh no Cyndi, I am so sorry :( Depending on how much work you want to put into trying to help her, you could look into this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/857143/treating-wry-neck-in-crested-duckling-edited-title I know your little one might not be showing signs of wry neck, but...

Have you watched to see if she is eating? I can't remember if you are doing this already, but mixing a little bit of water with a little bit of crumble/mash can sometimes help them get more food down. I did this when one of my little ducklings was sick, and it really helped her recover...

Everyone in the runner duck club, I have two healthy fawn and white indian runner drakes (both 1-year-old) in need of re-homing. They are brothers, best buddies, and partners. Very mild mannered, tolerant of being handled, and aren't too rough with the girls. Very good protectors and guardians...

I think at that age you can tell by the noise they make. If it's a louder quack/honk, then female. If it's a raspy, froggy quieter noise, then male. If I remember correctly, my boys didn't get their drake curl until 5 to 6 months old

Thanks, Miss Lydia. Virginia is too far for me, but hopefully someone will be able to take him. Here's the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/954818/male-indian-runner-in-need-new-good-home-virginia I agree with needlessjunk. It's important to be consistent, too; I've found it's easy to...

I think it is too early to tell. Maybe Birdrain is onto something. But sometimes you can't be sure until you hear the quack of a female or the rasp of a male. For new duck people, sometimes you can't tell until you see the drake's curly tail feather. Does he have a buddy?

I'd say keep the boot on, I bet it will help in the long term. She still has a lot of growing to do, so I really think using the boot consistently will help with the formation of her foot. Otherwise, I just wanted to say that ducks are tough creatures. Even if her foot ends up a little funky...

Interesting thanks for sharing. I read somewhere that even purebred runners vary in how upright they stand. So I don't think it's a question of the runners being purebred, but rather if they were bred over time more for show or for utility. Four of my 8 runners came from Metzer last spring...

Awesome runners @fowlman01 ! Mine are broader, heavier and don't stand so upright... like a lot of other folks' on this thread. The curve from forehead to bill is also not as rounded. Is the different appearance just because mine are probably not purebred? Or am I feeding them too much, ha...

Haha, once this runner really grows on you, the average duck might start looking goofy to you... waddling about all slow and low to the ground

So cute, I love seeing how much faster they grow than chicks... it's so funny :) I've learned my ducks love routine and are very sensitive to change. Which is no fun when they become afraid of you... but the upside is that he/she will probably learn to trust you again over time as you care for...

Yep, I do hear chattering too when I walk by at night. But it's quiet chattering and doesn't escalate to full blown shouting.

Oh my gosh, my girls can get LOUD too! It happens when they see someone walking by mid-day... they know I bring lettuce mid-day so they get really worked up then. So now, whenever anyone is walking in their line of sight mid-day, they yell. Haha, they even yell at strangers walking across the...

I've never experienced molt before, but don't you want to increase protein during this time? Let's see what everyone else has to say.

Oh yay! They are looking so good :) Thanks for the updated pictures! Like Amiga said, the spots are normal. My fawn and white (orange bill) females went through the same thing... right now one of their beaks is mostly green and the other has brown spots. It keeps changing, fades slightly then...

I don't think you need to be worried. I heard runners start laying as early as 4 months and as late as 6 months or older. My six female runners have all been late bloomers... they're all about 6 months and older now... still some are not laying. As long as your runners are behaving normally and...

Oh my gosh, they are so cute! I read somewhere that once they learn what their food is and where to find it, they don't try to eat the wood shavings. Maybe try putting them directly on the wood shavings in another day or two? My first bunch was fine on wood shavings until they were 3 weeks...
