Large tomatoes would be good, they can peck at those.
For something small like grape tomatoes, I would cut those into smaller bite-size pieces. Just my thoughts
Treats for today: Same ol' thing - grapes, apple, KALE
Look at those little sweeties.
Yes, the babies do like to have some treats of fresh greens. A good habit for them.
Mine adults mope if they don't get kale. So...that is usually what they get.
Today was 1 of the last watermelons from the garden. A nice watery treat for a hot day.
I pull a large variety of weeds. If you have a field guide or you can look online at "edible" plants, you may find a lot of stuff you can add here and there. Not everything I give they eat, but they love digging through the weeds to find tiny critters and just hunt and peck. I give lamb's...
I've found mine don't like bananas too well either (I have been known to sneak it in their wet food - none the wiser)
Oats/oatmeal is usually always a hit.
Weeds!
Fresh kale and tomatoes from the garden.
I think I'm going to have to work harder to get them to eat their food...when I got to TSC today, some man was buying the whole pallet of Flock Raiser so none. Thought about buying my adults Chick Starter I really like higher protein for my...
Looks similar to Smartweed or Lady's Thumb, but you may want to research it to make sure.
I have a lot of Lady's Thumb and pull some of it occasionally for my flock. If you free range it's usually not a huge problem because they will pick at this, that and the other. If they rely on their...
If it were my chickens they would have eaten the dog too
Mine don't get bread too often, it causes a frenzy.
Today green beans, tomatoes and squash. They are looking at me like """is squash really the only thing you can find"""?!?!?!? Last year they loved it, this year....not so much.
LOL They will probably eat the blooms too.
Mine are "spoiled" I pick the bugs for them!
Of course, if they could get to the woods, field and garden I'm sure they would love to scratch every inch under foot.
Another bucket of weeds and greens --the Japanese Beetles are starting to show up, so as many of those as I could find too. The girls were very happy about that.
Bucket of weeds + fresh kale, spinach and mustard greens from the garden. Also some nice fat green pea pods - just love to hear my cockerel Charlie go "looklooklooklooook" to the girls when he finds a pea or bug.
