    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Greetings! For those interested in APA/ABA-centric Dorking conversation, I have begun a Dorking thread in the new Exhibition, Genetics, and Breeding to the Standard of Perfection section. This new thread is specifically for the discussion of the Dorking within the context of the SOP and is not...

Cull a chick with crooked toes. Sometimes cockerels spurt and show inordinately early maturity; these often prove undesirable further down the road. However, as a whole, you want the earlier maturing chicks, because they speak to vigor and health. Keep all of them, though, which will help...

Hmmmm...that's because you're reading too much into it, and not reading in progression with what I said. I was discussing hatcheries and my references were to hatcheries, which if you reread the paragraph which gave you offense, you'll notice that the very first sentence in the paragraph made...

Not to intrude, but there are no imported Dorkings in the US. If they had imported Dorkings: It would be known in the poultry community It's a royal pain in the neck; so their website would at least make mention of it. It costs a lot of money, and anyone with the slightest business sense would...

"Whom do you respect for obtaining the best Silver Grey stock" I'd go to Dick Horstman, if I were looking for a start in Silver Grays.

This actually encapsulates much of what happened. My biggest regret is not to have been clear on the "audience", and it is what was elucidated in the following comments. It is good, and let's pray peace. On the other hand, it is good for a community to argue on occasion; to those who are...

Well, I wasn't actually going to address all of this, and for those who already brought the thread elsewhere, I apologize for the return, but the last statement tried a bit too hard to paint what I said as being some sort of personal attack, which I suppose it may have been misconstrued to be...

Well, there you go. Nothing like a little situation definition. "'I see' says the blind man". That was clarifying and helpful.

Hmmm.....The difficulty with all of this is that, in virtue of this thread, none of this is indicative of strong Dorking breeding programs, or of strong breeding programs in general. There are a lot of folks hatching chicks, but relatively few strong breeders that predictably put out...

Yes, but you threw in the trump card---kids. It is such an awesome thing to feed a child's desire to do something constructive and creative. If you give them a sense of ownership it expands the field in which they feel free to grow. On our front, we're preparing to liquidate almost...

Hmmm....that definitely isn't OK. What do the instructions for your "reptipro" suggest for hatching? With the GQF I just follow directions and have great results.

Peas in a pod, last night, returning from a poultry presentation, I was laughing with my husband about how every year there are things that slip my mind, and I have an "OMG I forgot to do it" moment. It's just that ome' got so much in one's head.

Someone grab the twenty then! I doubt they'd be able to find that info out. For what I understood from conversation with Mr. Urch, they used his stock to infuse their existing stock. The originator is probably long forgotten; they've had SG Dorkings for a very long time at this point...

Can you get them off of the layer pellet and onto a breeder pellet? If they have a vigor problem and are on a layer pellet, they might be having trouble with the shells. The breeder pellet might boost their general vigor while decreasing the extra calcium in the shell making the chicks tougher...
