Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I had one crow at 4 days old I think it was... I was so shocked. It was hilarious! He started wing dancing at 6 weeks and mating at 8. It was the most odd thing... He had saddles/hackles at 10-12 weeks though.

You're right. It is a cockerel. The other two are females as far as I can see.

Well if you see those saddle/hackle feathers early, BONUS for you! Easy giveaway they are roosters :) For most breeds it doesn't start until 10-12 weeks. By that time I already know they are boys based on their colour alone. Unless they are white. Like this stud muffin. :D I'm trying to...

This is not usual at all. What an over acheiver! I've seen them START on the hackles/saddles by 10 weeks, but never to that extent. This is what my boys look like at 10-11 weeks 15 weeks (not EE, but my boys always follow the same development it seems) Here is a 14 week old EE (the...

I don't think so. Not first generation anyway. Wish I could tell you how the paint colour came to be! I do find dominant white sometimes expresses spots. Here's another example of dominant white expressing in a female.

I got similar colour with a few of my dominant white girls. Not so pretty, but similar. I'd love to have something like that! I have this one bantam EE that has one spot :P Isn't she darling? Her mother is full bantam Ameraucana and her dad is a crested Easter Egger (with silkie blood in him...

I only hear about Paint in silkies. They are nearly white with black streaks in them like this. Splash is a lightish grey with blue splashes. Paint silkie Splash.

Not an article yet, but I did start a thread. I have to admit, I am quite addicted to sexing chickens by appearances. I am not into feather sexing day olds, or vent sexing - as I breed my own birds and feather sexing is very precise. You have to keep two lines of chickens, using fast...

I've done a couple more side by side sexing guides for the EEs. If you haven't come across my original one, I've added that as well (sorry to spam anyone who has already seen it!)

Thought I'd share some images of my EEs. Pullet Groucho - keeper cockerel. He is juvenile molting right now. Pullet (eyebrows!) Pullet Bantam Pullet I am not yet sure I want to call him an Ameraucana, even though that is what he was sold to me as.. so were the previous ones.. I...

I have an all black Easter Egger. She has a pea comb, and no beard, but she came out of a green egg and is pure black. She almost looks rumpless right now. I'll get you a photo so you can compare :)

The darker ones are what I'd consider olive coloured. My green eggs are like the light coloured one. Not my picture.

It's the filter. It's pink, not red. The girls are still the colour of their skin. Yep he's 11 weeks old here, picture taken yesterday.
