Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: I would say just by looking at the few pictures probably hatchery ginger red.The color is way off for a ginger. The tail angle is too steep. It should be at 45 degrees. If you are really interested in showing gingers you should do some checking around for a reputable exhibition breeder and...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: I think the wing carriage is fine. The wings appear a little short but it may just be the picture.I agree that I would like to see the tail more open and not at that steep of an angle.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

I have never bred crele but the standard states that,a DQ would be-Two or more solid black or solid white feathers in primaries, secondaries or main tail feathers.Defects are listed as Excessive white fluff at base of tail in males.White more than half of the length of any feather in males.Any...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

The hackle and saddle on a wheaton will be much lighter than a bb red that is the right color. This is a bb red cockerel of ours.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

As short as it is it would be up to the judge. It is so short that it could be considered to short to show. The standard says must have some semblance of a comb. It's close.I would probably take the bird and just let your son enjoy the experience.Like you said it's not all about winning.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

I cant help with the spagle standard but the blue male just looks like he has a bad dubbing job.

The wheaton will be noticeably lighter in the red areas. This is one of my 2010 bb red cockerels

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

I show BB Red's and I can say without another picture that no it's not show quality.Too much fluff at base of tail,Too high tail angle,Should be 45 degrees at the base of the sickles.Too long legged. He is just not very well balanced. The hackles also fade into a lighter color at the bottoms.The...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

This cockerel is seven months old.Alot of the tail is dependent on the breeding. Most of our cockerels tails will finish at six months and then we will dub them. Most breeders wont dub until the main sickle feathers are finished out.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: See now, I have always been told that the 'fluff' at the base of the tail is a good thing?? ETA: Maybe just on the big (LF) OE? I'm not sure on large fowl but on BB red OEGB The winning birds in big shows will not have the fluff showing.Alot of birds do have it,and some do show with...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: Some will show BB's with a small amount of fluff on them, but it all depends on the level of competition you are showing in.At a county or even most state fairs you may get away with it but if you go to a big OE show the top birds will not have any fluff showing. You can oil and hide a...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

This is just my opinion,The cockerel could be shown but I wouldnt expect him to place very well.He has a lot of white fluff at the base of his tail and his tail angle looks to be pretty high. The desired angle is 45 degrees at the shaft of the sickles. He would also have to be dubbed to be...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

The blues are tough to win with in the big shows. There are so many things you have to watch for breeding blues.Even lacing, color,Preventing rustiness in the saddle and hackle is a problem most blue breeders have to deal with.Around here there is'nt that many blues to compete with.If you get out...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

The Blues are tough,I believe as with any variety you need to start with the very best brood stock that you can get. That does make getting started alot easier.I'm not saying good birds of any color come easy but this helps. The cockeral in the second picture is actually the son of the cock bird...
