Amen on Odyssey Ranch. I have had nothing but good experiences there. Wayne and Barbara will sure give you lots of help if you need it.

Tomato seedlings are inside and two weeks old. They go out April 1st, which is when I do a batch of Earliglow corn.
Kale, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach... all the cold crops can survive the winter if you use cold frames or a greenhouse.
Several High Desert Wind Old Timer Sayings I've Heard Out Here
"I didn't know it was windy out here until it stopped one day and I fell over"
"The first year you move here, the wind blows all the time. The next year, it blows quite a bit. The third year, it hardly blows at all."
"You've...
Looks like there's an open mike as well. Any Poultry Pickers out there? My two big other passions besides the birds are the stars and the guitar.
I'll have to see if we'll be around that weekend.

OK, looks like the 2nd Poultry Processing Party is full! We have 2 BYC and 3 CPP/FB folks coming out with families. It will be a lot of fun. Be sure you bring an ice chest with ice in it to bring home your cleaned birds!
Like I say, I'd like to do this every couple months or so. It will...
Sure. I'll bet we have a few extra birds around, and if not, you can sure watch! To me, it's not much more trouble than cleaning a bass I caught out of Quail Lake, or a nice trout out of the Sierras.

BTW, Neenach is about 35 miles from Lancaster, west on the 138 (Avenue D), five or so miles east of Quail Lake. Close to Fairmont, 15-20 minutes past Antelope Acres...for those trying to find Neenach. We're at about Avenue B and 260th West.
Love to meet some of you fellow desert rats. My DW...
Poultry Processing Party - February 23, 11 AM to mid-afternoon some time. Woo-hoo! OK, here we go again. My goal is to include a bunch of us in a mutual learning curve on chicken processing. This is Party #2. Here's the deal.
1. I can host a half-dozen or so people (families are just fine) to...
Yes, Wayne and Barbara are going to compete with the biggies out there, I hope. They sure have helped me learn a lot about chickens. Never too busy for advice.
My TJ's chicks (7 made it) are 3 weeks old now! Leghorns, and flighty as can be, but still, you gotta love 'em.
I bought New Hampshire eggs from Wayne. So far, they're my favorite DP bird. Very good and tender as a dinner item.
When his Plymouth Rocks start laying, I'll probably do some...
Not to beat a dead horse, but stop over at Odyssey Ranch at 90th West between E and D. Wayne and Barbara will set you up. I have some of theirs and some of mine in the incubator now, and we'll see about hatch rates. Tomorrow is 7 days, and I'm planning on candling then.

I am just learning to process at home . I did two more 4.5 month birds today . It gets a lot easier as you gain experience. I am open to another processing party out at our place at the end of February.

Just a few of us are doing it this first time, and the idea is that we can all learn/get better at doing it ourselves. If you get on the California Poultry People thread over on Facebook, there are a few threads there. I'd like to do this every couple of months so that there will be a group of...
A few of us from the California Poultry People are getting together out in Neenach to practice processing some birds together Saturday. I think some of them are here. If it's a success, perhaps it would be a good thing to do from here as well. Right now, I'm a big time newbie, only having...
I'm out in Neenach, out in the very western end of the AV. I'm also on CPP on Facebook quite a bit. The humidity thing is bad. Now that I'm learning more about the hovabator, it does seem to want water every couple days.
I also own some nice Martin guitars, and each of them has a humidifier...
