It looks like I need to rehome my emus Claudius and Cleopatra - just about 6 months old so kinda big - my work decided to promote me (YAY!) but this means travel (BOO). I am concerned about their wellbeing when I am not here - we've had coyotes and other fun things lately. :(
Rehoming fee but...
Congrats Pyxis!!!! :) :) :) Want pics!!
I had someone adopting my Socrates come by last night and trying to load him into a giant box in a pickup three feet off the ground.. didn't go well.. if anyone has any emu transport tips let 'er rip, as I think I may have scared off my potential...
Hey @Pyxis , I have a new baby Emu! And the other egg (much larger than Egg #1) is rocking and rolling. I have limited space for emu brooding, so after I get the genders I'll decide if I should rehome my oldest Emu Socrates..
I have two eggs in, due at the end of the month.. Trying to hatch my socrates a friend (and yes, I know to keep them apart until MUCH older).. If nothing, likely will rehome socrates where he can have emu buddies.. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
He is! I still feel bad he's an only Emu, but we are taking a shot at keeping him. Our fence is still not complete so he's got a smaller area outside the barn for now and I walk him to his 'big' field several times a day when I do the chickens so he can run around and act like a loon.
I know what you mean about the squirmies - I have to pick Socrates up to let him outside and he squirms like I am I killing him. He's so sweet otherwise! :P
Yeah, mine is 4x8 too - thanks! :) He can't hop out since it's a 'coop' but he's going to outgrow it soon. He goes out 2-3 times a day when I can 'walk' him. =)
Hey Pyx- how big are your emu brooders right now? Your babies are older and I assume bigger than my little guy, was hoping I was on track with enough room...
I gotta check that out - but isn't emu egg season over? Saw a few auctions last week for 'the last egg' that were like $60+30 for shipping, single egg..
Don't know - I am kinda leaving it up to the hubby. we have room and just need to upgrade the fence, but he'd have to help with that. So far Socrates appears to like him more so maybe? I feel bad because he's lonely, tho - we have an Echo out at the brooder that plays comedy to keep him company...
My guy isn't quite old enough yet so I have time to pick a week when it's not so hot here. :) I'm going to throw in some cat vaccines also. Here he is trying to eat my phone.
Well, you were right - he didn't freak out other than the part where I carried him past the evil cat into the back field - then he spent the time in this HUGE open field pecking my hubby's feet. He didn't move unless one of us did :) (which is funny because in the living room he runs around...
