    all who are hatching quail

Oh, and by the way, 2 of my eggs are rocking! No pips yet, but those little babies are getting into position! :D

    all who are hatching quail

Yes, you can have a staggered hatch. I started coturnix and bobwhites in the same incubator on the same day. I took the coturnix out yesterday and put them in a 'hatcher' (mine is just a spare incubator where I bumped the humidity way up). The bobs have a longer incubation period so they are...

    all who are hatching quail

Just candled all my bobwhite eggs. :( Out of 100, 60 were infertile, 10-12 are questions, and only about 30 seem to be developing properly (a lot of the good ones are my cracked eggs). So sad! I'm not taking the others out yet. Some of the developing ones seem to be late bloomers so I will...

    all who are hatching quail

I think a hot glue gun would be waaaay too hot. Here's what I did... I took a small white votive candle that was in the little glass holder, lit it, and let it burn for a little while. Then I dipped a q-tip into the liquid wax and quickly 'painted' it on the crack. There's really not a big glob...

    all who are hatching quail

Candled a different wax 'fixed' cracked egg tonight. Jumbo Wisconsin bobwhites, day 5 :) I saw its little heart beating! Hopefully the pic will post. :/

    all who are hatching quail

These are jumbo Wisconsin bobwhites. The cracks/dents were through the shell but did not puncture the membrane. No pieces of shell were missing either.

    all who are hatching quail

I'm hoping the fertile ones make it all the way. I want to see their fuzzy little butts, and it would be great to prove to my husband and father-in-law that it's possible to hatch a cracked egg. ;)

    all who are hatching quail

I'm so excited I just have to share this with someone! Today is day four on my experimental eggs in the incubator. All of the eggs had small cracks or small dents in them and I repaired them with candlewax. I candled this egg when I got home from work. (Note the glob of candle wax) And this is...

    all who are hatching quail

I'm on day 4 of incubating. I about to go insane!! I can't wait for hatch time. I've got 50 Jumbo Wisconsins and 30 Jumbo Coturnix, but I'm most excited about the experimental batch with the cracked shells I repaired. OMG this is driving me nuts. I think I've candled a few every day so far...

    all who are hatching quail

I just set 50 jumbo Wisconsins and 30 jumbo coturnix yesterday. I also set an 'experimental' batch of 50ish jumbo Wisconsins. All of those shells had very light cracks in them when I got them. I read lots if threads about sealing the crack with candle wax and still being able to hatch some. So...
