I have one that is very similar to your 2 that is now 18 weeks and coming close to lay as she is now squatting and getting redder in the face, this was her a few weeks ago.
I know! I also seem to be the first to get them and then other matching weird looking birds get posted haha. I finally settled into her for sure being a female yesterday. All her pin feathers are done and she is still a she ;) Uneven red, black throat and all. Btw, Wester is is my problem...
as a reminder this is what she started out as
She is starting her 10th week....still not one pointy feather, her comb is still single row of peas and pale.
I am still leaning toward female even with the black throat area.....every other one of my roosters purchased with her have plenty of identifiable male specific feathers, granted none of them are EE (d'Uccle, Polish and Wyandotte) but she literally has nothing but color that is suspect. Her comb...
the thing is, all 3 of the other cockerels obtained in the same week have very obvious saddle and hackle feathers 1/2 out of the sheath already, long and pointy. This ones are all rounded and flat on the end. Yet she is at least as old as 2 of them if not older as she was significantly more...
You are giving me more hope! lol I will not be devastated but I did have the guy just grab one of the EE pullets for the potential colored egg since I went crazy on other breeds this year and didn't want to max out my 25 chicken limit this year. It would naturally mean that it was a male though...
I am very much hoping you are right, I am not getting rid of it till I am sure. "She" is at least 6 weeks old and everything else is looking pullet. The 2 little confirmed males are of course not the same breed but so obvious. This one has no points at all on the emerging feathers. Her comb is...
I'm still hoping this is a rare time you are wrong, out of 8 " pullets" and 3 straight run I got 5 roosters......I know it's not likely but hey a girl can hope. I am keeping the straight run bantams but the lf roosters have to go.
ha I didn't read your post well. The patchy red on the wings has Junnebugga convinced male though I was hoping it was just all over red coming in, she thinks boy and is seldom wrong.
yeah he is. I am waiting for the inevitable 2nd proof he is a boy before I give up. So far the emerging saddle feathers even look round, comb is still small and pale.
I may just be wishful thinking but the few shoulder feathers are actually more muted than the red on the chest and itsis less bright than these pictures look......and still flat comb with only one discernable row (had my daughter with younger eyes look too ) I'm still crossing my toes lol.
