    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Very pretty girl and nice looking rooster you posted a few pages back. Are they from my eggs? The roos change in color a bit as they age so you won't really know what he will look like till he's grown. The girls pretty much stay the same. She's a beauty.

I'm glad you are happy with your eggs and that they all arrived in one piece. Also, thanks for the free publicity. We can use all that we can get. I try to ship the speckled eggs since that's what everyone seems to like most. But they also lay a dark, solid egg with little to no speckles...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Almost all of mine lay speckled or spotted eggs. One or two lay a very dark solid egg that rivals my Marans but all the rest, over a dozen birds, lay speckled eggs. I think they are gorgeous. I've got the solid brown Black Copper Marans eggs but the speckled eggs my Welsummers lay are each so...

Last time I checked I was still on there and would love to stay. Is there a club I need to pay membership dues to? I fell off the face of the planet for the past several months but now I'm actively working my farm and hatchery again. Thanks.

Thanks Kim. I wouldn't say I "cull" much because the females all tend to look identical so most all of them go back into the pens but the roos vary in comb-appeal (I just made up that word) and how much red is scattered on their body and I only use one roo at a time so I pick my best and the...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi Everyone - I've been gone from BYC for a long time - most of this past year - because I've been so busy on my farm and taming and training the 16 wild Appaloosa horses I bought in May - what an "adventure". In any event, I'm back and trying to focus on my various breeds of chickens. I have...

Quote: Thanks Robin. I don't think he has frostbite. He was freeranging with the other 100 roosters around here until I put him in a pen a couple of weeks ago so I think he just has some peck wounds. I do have some mutt roosters that sleep outside on the ground or in the open and they are...

Quote: Good morning all. I'm actually, for the very first time, reading the APA standards for Welsummers and trying to pick my best roo for my breeding program. I have probably 10 roos but most have a lot of that red mottling in their breast or all over their sides and back end. Here is the...

Quote: You mean these green eggs: Those are my Olive Eggers. A Cross between my blue Ameraucanas (hens) and my Black Copper Marans (roos). As far as which lays better, Marans or Welsummers - I think it's a toss up. I pretty much get an egg a day from each.

Quote: That's where my flock came from. I posted pictures of them a few pages back and I also sell hatching eggs and day-old chicks. I don't believe Whitmore Farm sells hatching eggs.

Quote: Thanks. I have several but I personally like him the best so I've put him in the breeder pen. In all honesty I've never looked at the standards. Some of my roos have spotted breasts and some don't. This one has such nice contrasting colors and a solid chest. He has a very nice comb...

Hi All - I've been gone for a bit - it's been quite busy here on the farm. I've just recently separated my Welsummers and will be taking an order list for hatching eggs or day-old chicks soon. My flock is from Whitmore Farms and I have kept the lines pure. You can see more pics by clicking on...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi All - it's been a long time since I've posted on this thread but my Welsummers, from Whitmore Farm, all grew up and are laying like crazy. I've got little Welsummers running all over the farm. I love the variety of egg color I get - varies from day to day - sometimes solid - sometimes...
