If he has a straight comb, it's not likely that any of the pullets from him will lay colored eggs, unless he is bred to a pea comb hen....

I decided a long time ago that if possible I would order chicks from a respected breeder... I rarely get a dead chick when having them shipped, or a better than 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs..

What DMrippy said...I think Stromberg's may be able to get you Ameraucana's with a special order. They I think that is the hatchery that sells 'show quality'...but as Drippy said, you will get much better birds from an Ameraucana breeder. http://ameraucana.org/breedersdirectory.html

No, you will not find lavender Ameraucanas in there because the APA does not recognize lavender as an accepted color. You will find a description of an Ameraucana and that is the same for all colors. Technically, there is no such thing as a lavender Ameraucana, they are called project birds...

Sounds like you are saying that there is a splash lavender?? If the blue is just a diluter, why could you not dilute the lavender color just like we dilute the black to get traditional splash? Could you explain the BBS myth? I either believe it or haven't heard of it, cause I don't know what it...

Splash is a double blue gene. Different gene than lavender which is self blue, meaning it breeds true.

Sorry, I missed the point about white. I thought you were asking about the difference between blue and lavender. As for showing for your kids, I will tell you what I think, but I am not positive.. For showmanship, I don't believe the bird has to be a recognized breed. For APA showing, I am...

Close to the same color, but a different gene. Lavender breeds true. If you breed a lav to a lav, you get lav, or lav to black, you get split to lav, they all carry the lav gene. With blue to blue, you get blue, black and double blue (splash) chicks. If you breed blue to black, you get 25% blue...
